Bumping this thread because im thinking of buying one. My question is what are the arms like, are they plastic painted chrome or are they metal arms ?

Ive bought 3 cheapish chairs now with arms like that and theyve all snapped where ive circled

I wish it was still available at the cheaper price. Unfortunately it's priced at £40 + delivery. Hope the offer comes back soon!
  • Hi there everyone

    I bought a "
Berlin" leather chair (H71-978405) from Viking Direct (after seeing it on this forum) last year and was really pleased with it. It was really cheap and quite comfy.

Not that long after I got it I started to get problems with my skin namely on my elbows, fore arms, bum and around my eyes. I tried using different soaps and everything I could think of but nothing helped. My skin was sore, itchy, flaky, raised and red. I was watching the TV one night and Watchdog was on and they were showing a story about a chemical called DMF.

If you are interested you can find out about the chemical here - (Sorry I was not allowed to post the link :-( ). Manufactures use/used to us it as a anti molding against - to protect the product whilst in transit in a container from the other side of the World. You can also find a link to DMF on Watchdog here - (Sorry I was not allowed to post the link :-( )(I should point out that this is just one page of many on the topic).

After watching the program I started to wonder if the problem with my skin could be caused by the seat. I boxed the seat up and went out and bought a new one from Ikea and my skin has almost totally cleared up! It took between 3-4 weeks for my skin to clear up however I still have marks left on my skin from where the skin was all inflamed.

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems with this chair?

It seems to me that your problems are very similar if not identical to that featured on Watchdog. I suggest you drop them an email to let them know as they've only featured sofas in the past.

Do you still have the chair? Even if boxed up keep hold of it so it can be used for independent testing as this is quite a serious issue, a couple of people had horrendous skin problems as a result of this chemical on leather.
  • Hi there

Yeah still got the chair all box up incase it goes to get tested. There is a legal firm called Russel Jones and Walker which is handling claims from people who have suffered injuries from DMF. I will drop Watchdog an e-mail to see what they say.

Just posted it here so that others knew incase they had suffered anything else similar.

Can you please update us about your investigation? What was the cause of the skin problems? Have tests of the chair showed anything? I am thinking about pruchasing, but your message certainly makes me concerned. Even though DMF should be banned in the whole EU, it might still come with some products, and besides, perhaps some other chemical compounds caused those problems with Niceday chairs.
    Anyone else experienced these problems?
