forever sharp knifes

Hello all, I think maybe everyone needs to decide whether or not this is a good deal....Here goes, during a visit to my local(NEW MALDEN) Tesco today an announcement came out saying that free vegetable slicers were being given out in the Furniture dept. My very excited nine yr old persuades me to go down and we listen to a women giving a promo talk about said vegetable slicer. At the end of the short talk she then show us "new products about to be released in the UK". Namely the FOREVER SHARP KNIFE, she demonstrated how it cuts through everything and stays sharp forever, the knife cut through wood and even a solid metal hammer head. So at the end the idea was obviously to get the customers to buy the knife but if you didn't you still got the free slicer. The knife will apparently retail at £19.99 each but today we could get 3 knives, 2 paring knives, 2 mini juicers and a filleting knife for £23. The forever sharp knives come with a lifetime guarantee and all the others have a 5 year guarantee. Since I knew I could return the knives at anytime (to any Tesco) i have bought the set. They seem like good knives and I checked the website that sells the knives and all seems legitimate . So feel free to tell me if I just made a big mistake or if in fact you have already bought the knives and they are awful.:confused:Please be gentle though as I haven't posted on this board before.

They do these demos all over the place. I have never bought a set but have got several freebies. My friend has some of these knives and she said they do need sharpening after a while. Personally I prefer a knife with a bit of weight to it.

The free ones went blunt quickly for us- we've got about 5 through these demo's. Hopefully the ones you bought will last longer! If not at least you can take them back to tesco.

Saw this demo at Selfridge's in Oxford Street last year. The man did indeed cut INTO a solid metal hammmer head, but from where I was standing, it looked suspicious. First, the hammer looked like it was made from a soft metal, the sort you can buy from any pound shop if you're not bothered about the quality. Second, he didn't show anyone the knife afterwards, and third he only cut about 1cm in anyway.

    Slick presentation though.

Really and truly it is ,this was her finale trick. She passed around a brand new solid metal hammer so that we could confirm it was real then she proceeded to saw into the head of the hammer. She hardly seemed to use any effort and then a few seconds later she had cut a neat 1 inch groove into the hammer head. I can get all three of my children to swear to this too as they watched with wide open mouths.:A

She used the knife to cut a very ripe tomato afterwards to prove it wasn't blunt. Also we were standing right next to her. throughout the demo so I can safely say it all seemed genuine.
Despite all this after all the responses I think I will return the knives and have a hunt in TK Maxx instead?!
  • I bought these from a demo in Asda a few months back and the main knives have been fantastic for some jobs, not good on anything that needs a lot of pressure to chop as bendy but have some great uses around the kitchen.

We got given some of these by the MIL and personally I think they are great - we have 2 of the bread/carving type knives and 1 paring knife and then we got the free veg slicer thingy at a demo. I personally prefer using these to our normal knives which are good quality ones. We have had them about 2 yrs now and not needed to sharpen them at all.
  • I have bought the same set, with lifetime guarantee (cannot spell!) but you can't take it back to tesco/wherever, you have to post them back to the knife company! Still I like mine!
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!
