Hi
Please can anyone help!! I subscribed to E7s Broadband and have recieved my modem etc but am struggling to get it set up - I think I have managed to attach the modem to the computer but am struggling a bit with what to do with the phone line - at the moment on my dial up connection I seem to have the phone line connected to a small adapter which then goes into the computer! The instructions I recieved with the kit are a bit vague for a computer thickie like me!!
Hope someone can help!
Thanks

You should have a small box or adaptor that plugs into your telephone wall socket called a "Microfilter"
Into this you plug in your normal house phone, and you should also have received a lead that will run from the second socket on the Microfilter to the Broadband modem you have just attached to your PC.Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Hi
Believe it or not - I am still not connected!! I understand what to do now but my phone point is in the hall and the computer in the living room so if I connect the filter into the phone point and then the modem, the cable that needs to go into the computer won/t reach!!! Is there anything I can do or do I need to get a phone point nearer to the pc.
Hope this makes sense and sorry to sound so thick!!

Plug a filter into the socket as it comes into the house. Then connect a telephone extension lead to the filter in order to reach your computer. You may or may not need to add another filter at the end of your extenison lead before connecting your modem lead to the computer (mine works without but it may need it).

You can buy an extension in somewhere like Dixons. A lot of Broadband providers will tell you that this isn't reccomended, but I've never had a problem. Should only cost a few £'s.0

LOL ok you should be able to get an extension lead which will give you enough length. OR go wireless like me!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. You need an longer lead.
Either one to plug in the phone socket and effectively you will move the phone
socket to your computer - you can plug the micro filter into it but you will have to move your phone.
Or a longer lead from your ADSL modem to the computer.
First one worked for me0 -

Still not sorted - lol!!! tried the filter into the wall and then an extension lead but that didn/t work!
Thinking of trying wireless - will let you know how I get on!!

you should just be able to do as Poppy says, when it was really hot i just plugged an extension cable into the microfilter and put the computer outside and it worked ok.
You could try a longer usb cable from the pc to the modem. Also make sure that you've not received and installed your modem before your line has been activated.0 -
MAyflower have you have plugged the extension lead in as normal, brought it through to your computer, plugged the filter into the extension lead, and then the Broadband modem lead into the filter, the other end of the Broadband modem lead into your computer. If your still not connected it may be as 'scheming gypsy' says that your Broadband is not yet connected.
Have you disconnected your dial up modem? one other thing when you go to Control Panel>Internet Options> Connections tab is the never dial a connection highlighted? These are the Good 'ol Days just wait and see!0
