good point, that's how i might have done it not the other way round like i said0 -
In fact you don't need a filter on the computer (modem) connection. The filter is to isolate the high frequency ADSL signal from the low frequency telephone signals and thereby allow your phone to work correctly.
If you dont need a phone by the computer, just use an extension cable from the socket to the modem.
THIS FAQ explains setting your broadband up quite well.
You may still need a microfilter as an adaptor depending on the modem cable supplied. It is probably a small square plug as against the wider rounded telephone plug.0 -

If your still not connected it may be as 'scheming gypsy' says that your Broadband is not yet connected.
Have you disconnected your dial up modem? one other thing when you go to Control Panel>Internet Options> Connections tab is the never dial a connection highlighted?
Done exactly as above..and ADSL light is flashing on the modem and the DATA and LAN lights are off - Does this indicate my broadband is not yet connected....ordered this over 6 weeks ago which would seem strange!

Sounds like the modem is receiving ADSL info, so phone line IS activated, but that that info isn't getting to your computer (LAN NOT active). Have you installed the drivers for the modem (if it has any)? If not, do that first.0

Mayflowers,
I think you are right, the ADSL light should remain lit once a connection is established. It can take around 30 seconds from power on to establishing a connestion.0 -
I guess you could test this by plugging your phone straight into the socket without a microfilter and trying to make a phone call!0

Have you go microfilters on all other phone sockets in the house. I think you need them. Can remember what the term is but the light should flash until the modem gets itself sorted, if it keeps flashing more than about a min it could be no broadband set up on the line or too much interference.
You could try unplugging phones from all other extensions for a while and shoving the pc close enough to the socket to reach. Don't think you even need a microfilter then. If that doesn't work then it must be the line or modem?0 -
When you installed the modem did you set up a new connection to the internet using the settings the new ISP gave you?0

I had no problems with my broadband which is on a hardwired telephone extension. Moved to e7even hoping to get at least twice the speed but it only worked at a slow dial-up speed.
Tried everything but finally found out that the analogue telephone, which was plugged into that system was causing the problem. I just unplugged it and now everything works great. I think it is the extra broadband speed that was causing the problem.
The other phones in the house are digital cordless and they pose no problem.
(I still keep the analogue phone available for the odd occasion when the electricity is cut off... Like yesterday from 8am to 2pm ; o ((( )I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0
