Can't deposit to Principality, also should I trust them?

Options
Hi,

I've tried to make a few deposits into my new Principality e-Saver account with any luck. My initial small payment (just £100 via cheque) to open the account was fine, but since then I've had no joy. On three occasions now I've tried transferring money via the direct debit they've set up (as far as I can tell it's the only way of depositing) and on all three occasions they seem to of completely disappeared. It's almost a week since the first attempt now and no transfer has been made, and none of them show in the 'future transactions' section.

I'm also a bit concerned, not only is the payment not going through properly, I find their website to be horribly broken in places (doesn't inspire me with confidence) and they take a couple of days to respond to messages left on the site which isn't great either. I've never had any problems at all with my other accounts (and I've got around four different savings accounts with various companies) so I just want to make sure these guys are trustworthy before putting a fairly substantial amount into the account. Just tried ringing them but they're currently unavailable due to training, well ring again later, could well be make or break for me.

Thank you

Have you double checked with your bank to make sure the DD's been set up correctly with them?

I think so - when I login to my current account and go to direct debits, the Principality account is on there just fine.

When setting up the DD did you also have to nominate the bank (in addition to completing the DD form)?

I believe so, I can't remember the exact details unfortunately but I'm certain that I did everything required.

I'm sorry, I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't work. I don't have any experience of Principality myself. Hopefully you'll be able to get hold of them soon to find out why it's not working.
  • I've also opened one of these for my mum.

To test a transfer INTO the account I set up the necessary transfer details with the originating bank where my mum's current account is and sent £1 via online banking.

The details you require to transfer INTO your account are as follows:

    Sort code 20-18-15
    Account no 90653535
    Reference/Roll Number <your 9 digit account number>

I'm now in the process of testing the transfer out facility with principality using another £1 transaction as there's no point putting all your money in there if you can't get it back out again with the press of a button.

Well it <could> take almost a week, particularly if the final transfer to your account is done manually. Arriving in your account on the third working day would be standard though.

Many thanks for the replies guys, I've had an absolute nightmare though! I've setup three transactions totalling £59k (oops!) since Principalities future transactions page seems to be broke, one is going through tomorrow for £18k which is fine, but I don't have anywhere near that amount in my Lloyds account so I'm hoping the payment is just going to automatically be rejected as opposed to putting me stupidly in debit on my Lloyds account? Hmm. Any idea how this is going to work please? The Principality lady said there's no chance of cancelling the transactions.

I'd ring Lloyds and tell them what's happened.
  • Hi

My £1 cheque went through Ok

Tried to transfer £10 by direct debit into PBS from another building society and nothing shows in `future transactions'

I did not send any paper direct debit form as I did not think I needed to
