Hi,
I have recently bought a leather jacket from ebay, it didn't cost that much but with p&p it pushed it up a little.
It arrived today and I can't even have it in the house as it smells so badly of cigarette smoke. Obviously as it's leather I can't wash it.
I have contacted the seller but have had no response as yet. It isn't worth returning when I've paid the p&p again
Would you leave a negative if the seller ignores my messages?

no. Read the listing carefully. Does it say from a smoke free home?0

If it's sunny again tomorrow, then hang it on the washing line all day to air itI

personally if it was me i would give them chance to respond and sort it out (as you are doing). if they dont sort it out then i would leave a neg.
i dont agree that a listing has to say "from a smoke free home" in order for you to expect it not to stink. i know smokers can't tell how bad they smell but they could have asked a non smoker to sniff the jacket and then they could have put stinky in the listing!
i think it should be the other way round, expect something not to smell of smoke unless it says 'from a smokey home'. or whatever the opposite of 'smoke free home' is.0 -
my home is a smoke free home, but i dont write that on my listings. so if it doesnt say "from a smoke free home" on the listing, it doesnt mean that it IS from a smokey home.
I belive that it is important to list if it does smell.... If i DID smoke in my home, then I would either keep my items in a smoke free room with the door shut, or put on the listing that it MAY smell of smoke until washed. Its only fair that wayI

My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Put it in a sealed bag with some of those tumble dryer sheets for a few days.0

I've had it out today but it hasn't worked, our house was previously owned by smokers and the smell was so ingrained we had to rip out everything to get rid of the smell. The jacket has a really stale and sickly smell. It must have come from a house with heavy smokers as even the packaging smelt terrible.
The listing didn't say from a smoke free home, but imo I don't think that makes it okay?

I've left the ball in their court atm, I'll see what happens.0 -

Have you or any of your friends got an ioniser - they have a filter in some of them that draws smells out of things - it may work, if you try it in a confined space (but being leather it may be that far soaked into the leather that even a box of matches may not shift the smell) worth a try if seller ignores your emails :cool:0
