  • i've had an email from their administrators laying down the terms for refunds.

i too have been chasing up an item with them since the beginning of january and being fobbed off week after week until the administrators answered the phone the other day and explained all.

the letter states that they will be starting to process refunds in the next 5-10 days and should be completed by 15th march.

I've had my letter from the administrators too. Basically, a company called Easy Computers has bought the website and name of Trade Appliances, which is why their website is up and running. Easy Computers are not liable for any orders taken by Trade Applicances and have no obligation to fulfil those orders. You can however, place a new order for your goods with Easy Computers and pray that they'll arrive. (Somehow, my confidence there is pretty low).

Orders made by credit cards are covered by our lovely Consumer Credit Act and refunds will be provided. However, if you paid by cash, debit card or cheque and they have taken the money off you, you'll have to join the back of the queue of debitors, and there is a far few in front of you (including all their suppliers, who have rights to the stock they have).

I'd paid for my stuff by credit card so am pursuing both the bank and Trade Appliances and seeing who pays up first.
  • I can't believe what I am reading...... I went into a trade appliances store today and a member of staff was very helpful. We are ordering a kitchen this week and so I said I would be back at the weekend to order the appliances from them. he said they could get the cooker I want in 7 days???!!! No mention of being in adminisration?????? Glad I read this! I take it I should go elsewhere for my stuff?

  • Money Saving Diva - it could be that Easy Computers took over the shops of Trade Appliances too. I don't know.

I would strongly advise that if you do purchase anything from their stores, pay by credit card and get them to confirm (in writing) a delivery date if you can't take the goods with you that day. That way, if they fail to meet their delivery slot this would be considered misrepresentation or breach of contract and you will most likely be covered by the Consumer Credit Act (although your credit card provider will probably wait 30 days in the case of non-delivery).

Here's some info on the Consumer Credit Act

    Good luck and happy shopping!

  • I read a link stating 66 of their employees were made redundant. We purchased some kitchen appliances from them costing £1,400 and as we payed by debit card have lost the whole lot. Absolutely soul destroying.

got an email from them today saying they are having a showroom sale of appliances at their Northampton store,up to 50% off.
  • Having started this thread I thought I'd just update on my experiences with the new lot that have taken over TA. We had a refund and then placed another order with the new company with all our fingers and toes crossed, the delivery date did slipped by a week or two. But we have finally received our Rangmaster Cooker and Splashback, but as Rangemaster will no longer trade directly with them, they actually ordered it from Currys who then delivered it direct to us.
