dont take a pile of books unless you genuinely intend to sit down and read them. make sure you and your trave buddy both take something the other wouldnt mind reading, and swap when you are done.

this is my problem - for a fortnights holiday i take at least 10 books and they weigh a tonne - yes i know im a lazy mare but my holiday to me is lying on a sun lounger reading all day long !!

How about using vacuum bags they have some HERE (argos website) or if you don't want to use a vacuum cleaner, you could try compression bags (argos)
  • I never ever EVER go on holiday without my infinate dress (well, I didn't before I got pregnant)

They are fab :) You can get one in red too!

EDIT: Or if you're crafty, you could make one with this pattern http://rowena.typepad.com/rostitchery/2006/06/one_seam_conver.html

would audio books on an mp3 player work for you? i know its not quite the same, but it would certainly make your bags lighter!

or as a compromise, take books you wont miss and leave them there for the staff/with other guests, so at least you will have space coming home for all your duty free and new treasures :D

You could lose one outfit by wearing the outfit that you travel in? Are you sure you need 2 jackets?
I like the idea of using the Hotel's toiletries but I still end up taking soap , moisturiser , hair products , shower Gel , perfume etc :o

i will be wearin the cargo trews tshirt and flats with a denim jacket/fleece to travel in both there and back so they wont b in the bag. i need a separate jacket for evening because a lot of bars/restaurants have a strict dress code (eg no fleeces/denim/etc) im unlucky in that i am allergic to certain products so i have to be very careful in what i use on my skin. therefore usin hotel toiletries isnt an option....when it comes to my toiletries im packin.... lush seanik shampoo bar, simple cleansing wipes and travel moisturiser, toothbrush and mini paste, mini dove body wash and puff, mini impulse bodyspray and sure mini deodorant, mini baby oil, ckone perfume, plus my trusty avon volume foam, spray wax and a mini hairspray....a few sparkly grips/slides and 2 pairs of earrings as well as a few necklaces (one of wich il be wearin to travel in) plus my makeup bag.....base, concealer, powder compact, eyeshadow duo, mascara, eyeliner, 1 lippie, 1 clear lipgloss....thts it!!!!!

I'm going on my honeymoon in 2 months time so have stumbled across this forum.

I only ever take hand luggage but think my honeymoon may be a bit of a challenge!

We are spending 9 nights in Miami, 2 nights in Key West then 4 nights in NYC. So I have to cater for differenet climates. Any advice?

This would be my capsule wardrobe for a city break. I tend to use neutral colours and make sure that everything goes with each other (e.g. cream, brown and grey).

I think you need to prepare for variations in the weather so layering is the key.

for the flight Jeans (usually skinny), flat boots, T shirt, cardigan, trench coat.

2 cardigans. I have one in leopard print , which is great for day and night and because it has neutral colours it goes with a few things and I also take a plain one in beige.

2 t shirts in white/cream. One plain and one with a design.

2 vests, one black, one white. can be worn of an evening with jeans and a sheer top or cardy or underneath jumpers for the day.

    2 long sleeved t-shirts in white/cream

1 pair of heels that go with all evenign wear.

1 big square scarf that ties everything together.

Underwear (enough for everyday + 1 in case of delays)

Bag for sightseeing , small clutch bag for evening that is in a neutral colour.

Sheer tops that pack into nothing for the evening to be worn over vests with skinny jeans.

I decant all my toiletries as I'm very particular about what I use and take lots of mineral make up which is all powder to get past the liquid restruction for hand luggage. I check ahead if the hotel has a hairdryer and take straighteners.

    For a beach break:

    2 Linen trousers
    2 Light skirts
4Vest tops in neutral colour (cream, white and black)
    cardy
Maxi dress (can be worn day evening)
sheer tops for evening for over vests
jeans (travel in) and t shirt.
    ballet pumps
    bikini
    sarong
    books

Hope this is some use to people out there as it's becoming more and more of an art with the baggae restrictions!
