I too can take a weeks worth of holiday clothes etc in one piece of hand luggage -
1 pair of knickers per day
    couple of bras
    1 pair socks per day
    1 top per day
2 pairs of trousers or 1 trousers and 1 skirt
spare pair of trainers - always wear the biggest and heaviest to travel in
couple of jumpers or cardis depending on the destination
I use the room toiletries so never take shower gel or shampoo
And I still have loads of space left for books, gameboy etc
If I need anything more I'll wash something or buy something new out there.

    That's just like me.
Our family of six flew to America. At check in the lady at the desk explained that the baggage allowance was for each person not for the whole family:o We had even packed a thin suitcase inside the one we checked in to fill while we were there.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

so that's where I've been going wrong!

I empty wardrobe into two suitcases

Add another small suitcase containing toiletries.

Get downstairs, and remember I haven't packed any shoes, & get another suitcase out for those!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: That is just me all over :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I bought an enormous lime green case a couple of years ago and OH threatened to burn it when we got back from honeymoon (£100 in excess baggage later - oops! very NOT MSE!)

For a sun holiday I'd take:

underwear for the whole trip, and two pairs of socks
    flip flops
    closed toe sandals
    a pair of linen trousers
    a long wrap skirt
    a pair of capri pants
(a pair of jeans for travelling in, which don't go in baggage obviously)
    a dress
a vest top for every day
half that number of dressy tops for evening time
    two bikinis
something with long sleeves in case I want to cover my shoulders
a large square scarf - can be a sarong, a headscarf, shoulder covering, a towel, a picnic blanket....
    toiletries
    no jewellery
Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76
    Three gifts left to buy
  • thuis applies to ANYONE-
just take 1 overnight bag, with-
    toiletries
change of clothes (for inevitable flight delay)
    swimsuit
    passport
cash/credit card - buy what you need there!

    what else do you need?!

Hmmm not very mse to buy all new stuff though!!  Typical man:rotfl:
  • Always take your bikini and shorts/vest/1 sarong in your hand luggage - kids also take or wear their swimming shorts on flight with sandals, just incase suitcase is lost can still get a tan and swim! I travel in my capri shorts and a cotton vest top with a pashmina. Suitcase gets about 10 primark vests and 2 more shorts, sandals, sundress, cotton skirts 2 flowery ones - all this lot will mix and match - 3 bikinis and as many sarongs as will fit as you can wear them as skirt/dress, shoulder cover. underwear obviously - I leave perfume and makeup at home as it melts/goes off and attracts mosquitos. Hope this helps - I could improve on this and now feel challenged to do so!

Also, check with your accomodation whether they provide towels for the beach. At least one of the hotels in our resort does, as do many of the villas too. That'll give you extra space.
I'm a really light packer. I can do a long weekend easily with a ruck sack. Get sparkly flip-flops... then they can do both day and night - no doubling up there.

so with you on this, I'm packing at the moment - leaving for 3 and a half months and doing hot and cold climates

    it's hard work packing!!!
  • If I can add my pe'north - if you take bikinis in similar colours to vest tops you don't need any bra's for daytime - even in the evenings if underwired and match those tops too. Wear bikini as underwear and hand wash every night - it'll dry pretty quick to wear again later in week.
Also - if intending to buy any pressies for people @ home or even yourself - and they do some really gorgeous things in the markets abroad - take your `past their best undies' and throw away thereby giving you some space in the suitcase. (come on folks - we'll all got SOME which aren't really that white any more !!)

Also if it's just a beach holiday then you really DO need only flip flops for day time and a sparkly pair of not-too-high heals for night time - not too high due to alcohol consumption (as if !)

I also like the tip of putting everything on your bed - then remove half of it. Pity I don't take this advise.

Hope you have great time. :j :j :j

I do this!! A great tip!!

I usually go and backpack around when I go for my holiday, that or a city break ( usually ryanair & I wont pay the extra for hold baggage!! ) I always take the tattier vest tops as well, once Ive worn them I have been known to handwash them and leave them as part of a tip in some places I stayed ( dominican republic and cuba particularly) Indeed many hotel workers really do value these, particularly childrens clothing ;) When I came back from venezuela I only had 2 tops and a manky towel ( used for wrapping the bottles!!) left and the rest of my baggage was rum!! couldnt even carry it!!

    :rotfl:
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I always bring too much but never go over the weight limit cos I only wear skimpy stuff on hols :D (This only applies to sunny beach hols though)

1 pr knickers per day (no socks - only wear flipflops/sandals on hols)
1 black bra, 1 white bra
approx 4 bikinis (some of these double up as bras under certian halterneck tops)

    to travel: lightweight jeans/linen trousers
    strappy vest top
    shrug/light-weight long-sleeved top

I generaly go for a colour theme too, mainly pinks and greens (bright summery colours)

skirts: 2 knee length, floaty type: 1 white, 1 pinky/orangey/multi plus
short denim one and a black one for out @ night

tops: stretchy vest-type or halternecks which don't need ironing (in fact none of my holiday wardrobe ever needs ironing) normally one white, 1 black, 1 pink

1 dress (fairly casual, so can be worn with flipflops during the day or dressed up with sandals & jewellery @ night)

footwear - this is my weakness - i bring about 5 pairs of flipflops (last year i brought 1 white, 1 black, 1 silver, 1 pink plus a couple of pair of "heels" for evening wear) If I think I'm going to be walking around a lot I'll wear trainers on the plane.

Even though I plan my outfits before and try to mix & match as much as poss, I still come home with lots of stuff unworn.

most of my suitcase weight comes from toiletries, hairdryer, straighteners though.
