Well, its certainly got everyones 'grey matter' working this evening.
I like the sound of your idea Aqueoushumour, I suppose if you swapped Normans for Vikings it could tie in with the ship.
Just noticed reading the thread again, that LAS should be la normandie, sorry everyone, typo.0 -
Yeah it got me interested too. I definitely wouldn't put it on ebay until you had found out a bit more about it, you never know it might be worth something. I started reading about William the Conqueror after I read your thread. Apparently he was born in Normandy in 1028, and was the illegitimate son of the duke of Normandy, (hence his nickname William the ba****d!) Apparently he defended Normandy from the French and was a distant cousin of the then King of England Edward the Confessor, who was childless. As there was no obvious heir William thought it should be his!
I must be getting old as I am now finding this sort of stuff interesting!0 -

I'm descended from William via three of his children (Henry I, Adela and Cecilia), and 19 of his grandchildren. The lines converged over the years into my great-grandparents who were 11th cousins 4 times removed. You and I must be distantly relatedWhich cousin?

Hmm, not a name I know; do you know the exact cousin-connection to William? It's possible your William is descended from the Conqueror's grandfather Richard The Good or great-grandfather Richard The Fearless; they both sired numerous offspring. Any other details? Wife? Kids?0

It's kind of a footnote near the top of our (otherwise pretty thorough) hand-drawn treeNo descendants shown. I think complete information is only drawn in from around the 1500s or so.
