Hello, just had a look at your photo's and quickly went and examined my dress closely, as the front is the same on both dress's, and they are the same, mine has the netting stuff and the same detail as your's has on the bust and side, only difference being i paid for crystal to be added, and paid for a sweetheart neckline, which i am sure the original didnt have one. I personally think it looks ok (please dont shoot me) but then i would as its the same as mine :o . They have to change something on the dress due to copyrights, and like i have said before when i first saw mine it i was shocked and i was so numb as it wasnt like the original, i guess it is the beading that they change, as that is quite a bit of expense. I know you have asked for certain changes, which havent been done, and the workmanship isnt that high, so you have every right to be p**sed off, i really hope you can get it sorted x x

I probably spoilt myself trying on the original, so I'm expecting some changes, but if the workmanship's poor, you have evefy right to be p*ssed off. Stick to your guns and don't let them get away with it.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Current Pay Off Target : £1500

Sorry to take up so much of the thread lately, OH isn't interested in hearing about it all as he doesn't want to know anything about the dress and I can't tell him whats wrong with it without giving things away as to what it looks like.

Don't apologise. It's good to hear about everyone's experience, good or bad. And that's what we're here for.

I agree that if you are not happy, you have to contact them and explain the problems, and perhaps get some compensation.

I do agree with Kate, that it looks OK. While you can see the netting in the close ups, it looks fine in the long shots. Of course, what the camera shows is very different from seeing it with your own eyes.

Ultimately, it's about how you feel. It's your wedding and you shouldn't have to settle if you're not happy.

I wish I could be of more help... :grouphug:

I agree that it looks fine.

You have to remember that all those fine details and specific sorts of beading are what makes up the designer price tag. You can't realistically think that something that cost £100 (in my case) will be the same as a dress that cost £1000.

I would have thought it unlikely that anyone will get within an inch of you to examine the beading in any detail. If anyone does that to me they will get punched.

As far as the sizing is concerned better too big than too small and if you have it taken in that could sort out some of the dodgy seaming.

Unfortunately the detail is one of the risks of falling in love with the original and not being able to afford it.

Saying all that I do feel really sorry that you are disappointed and agree that you should contact Landy asap and explain your concerns.

I understand what you're all saying about the beading, but the first thing I ever asked in my contact with them was "as the beading detail is what I love about the dress, can you confirm that the dress you make will have the exact same detail round the bust and down the sides of the lacing panel" and she said yes it would be. I then explained that if anything else has to change then no problem, I understand this due to copyright etc, but as long as she can do the beading detail the same then I will go ahead. This was what led us into discussion on what else could be changed and I gave her my other instructions.

Right, just sent off an email to explain my concerns. I basically listed that:

    1) They told me the beading would be the same and it isn't.
    2) I asked for sweetheart neckline and it's straight.
    3) It's too large, even though my measurements are the same as what I sent.
    4) Colour is different.
    5) I asked for a hook/bustle, they confirmed they will do and there isn't one.
    6) I asked for the lacing panel to extend down to the hips and it stops mid-back.
    7) Ordered a 2 ring A-line petticoat and received a massive 3-ring one.

Obviously I wrote it in more detail. I asked if this was infact my dress as there was so much different with it, as I might simply have received the wrong one. And I asked how we can sort this out as soon as possible.

I know I can get some things altered on it, but it was meant to be made to measure and now I'll have to pay for alterations.

Will keep you posted on a reply.

PS: about the netting detail, it sticks out a mile unfortunately so it's very obvious even from about 10 metres away, most likely to do with it being a different colour to the dress material. What it looks like in the close up pics is exactly how you see it with your eyes from a slight distance. The long pics do make it look invisible, would be ok if it was like that in real-life, one less thing to worry about lol.
  • Paddingtondoo, have you ever posted pics of your dress? I don't recall seeing any. I'd love to see.

Amazing what a £5 body shaper can do and the hoop is quite tight around the waist so made me stand up straighter :rotfl:
