Wow... I'm shocked that Halifax has so many votes! I've alwasy had problems with them and out of all the banks I've dealt with they have been the worst, or maybe just behind Abbey actually.

Did you guys see the BBC Watchdog report where First Direct and Smile came top whereas Abbey seemed to have the most negative feedback...

Whilst that might true for some but, I also know from experience that alot of complaints is actually the customers fault but, blame the bank.

Hardly a day goes by on WHT someone posts saying the bank has done this, that and the other when in all reality and alot of the times at the end of it it's the customers fault for one reason or another.

    The Co-operative gets my vote.

Always friendly and helpful on the phone, never have to wait ages for someone to answer and they always sort out any problem like they say they will :)

First Direct. Been with Lloyds, Abbey, Halifax and HSBC (yeah I know FD are a part of that group) and none of them compare to FD.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

Well I agree that's probably true but when it comes to customer service, my experience of them has been less than impressive. I've also seen how they dealt with my girlfriend when her cheque book was stolen in the post and they hardly seem to be the most helpful people in the world in that scenario either... but as I say, that's my experience...

    No that's right :)

It's just strange to learn when a large number of Halifax customers have problems because Halifax have always bent over backwards to help me and the several people I know and be really polite and caring when on the rare ocassions I/they have contacted them.

Some get #1 service and some get poor service but, weired how people like me only get what I'd call first class customer service and various others always get poor customer services

  • I have found Yorkshire Bank to be excellent. Admittidly their counter service can be a little slow, but on the whole I've found everything to be excellent. I had a rogue charge on my card a couple of months ago and the contact centre contacted my branch and arranged a time for me to go in and speak with some one face to face and to complete the forms that same day, which I thought was a very nice touch indeed.

I also made an error when I changed jobs by forgetting to change one of my direct debits over and it came out two days before I got paid. I went to my branch and they prevented the direct debit from going out on that day and thus avoiding the charge, which I was more than happy with. It just felt good to have some one work with you to rectify the situation, rather than insisting they can't do anything and letting the charge go on.
