Best Customer Service???

With so many banks offering customers new incentives, its difficult to choose which to bank with on a day to day basis. I think its important to have your current account with a good bank who not only offer good customer service when things are going well, but also understanding when things are not. After all isnt that a good sign of a company? Dealing with problems in a good and understandable way?

With that in mind, I wanted to know what banks you guys had the best customer service experience with... Share your thoughts as I think as well as naming the bad ones out there, we should name the good ones too! ;)

p.s. Doh... forgot to add Natwest. If you want Natwestm could you select 'Other' unless someone can show me how to edit a poll as I cant work out how to...

  • Alliance and Leicester were quite good customer service wise, so I voted for them. HSBC meanwhile have been unfailingly pleasant so far, so I voted for them as well.

Lloyds TSB are pathetic in every respect imaginable. Barclays' branch service was consistently excellent, but they got let down by having a p**spoor offshore call centre. NatWest were just "meh", really.

A&L generally get a bad press, but I've always found them to be very good. Shame they had to go and introduce those new overdraft charges.

  • NatWest gets my vote :D

I couldn't possibly guess why. Possibly much for the same reason that I think the John Lewis Partnership Card is the best credit card ephar... ;)

Smile and First Direct are much better than most of the others. I have experienced them both, and overall I prefer Smile.

Wow... I'm shocked that Halifax has so many votes! I've alwasy had problems with them and out of all the banks I've dealt with they have been the worst, or maybe just behind Abbey actually.

Did you guys see the BBC Watchdog report where First Direct and Smile came top whereas Abbey seemed to have the most negative feedback...
