Baliffchasers posts are irrelevant please ingore them.
Has your boyfriend got hold of the credit card company any news what is happening yet?0 -
Not heard from him yet, I can't phone at work...grr!! (but I can use the internet quite a lot
) Will let you guys know as soon as I get home - BF can't use internet in work so we are incommunicado!!
Whatever happends re: recovering the money, my main bone of contention is that they ddn't PROVE he owed anything...I'm not blaming BF for paying, but for all we know it could be a complete lie...
I'm all for avoiding Baliffs...they scare me, as does debt
Thanks so much for your helps rayday2 and RAS - means a lotPositive vibes:

Well maybe when you get to chat to your BF there may be something you can do, even if it seems hopeless come back with what they say you never know!0

I would be very wary of a lot of the advice that is being bandied around here. I am sure that most, if not all, are well meaning - but if making the payment has indeed revoked the statute-barred status of your BF's debt, then doing a chargeback could cause all sorts of problems - specifically, exactly the kind of problems you are trying to avoid. (i.e. negative impact on your credit record, further action from debt collectors etc)
While I don't doubt the good intentions in those recommendations, I would point out that most if not all of the people here (including myself) are not qualified financial advisers, or legal experts. I would STRONGLY recommend that you speak to a professional financial adviser, or to someone from Community Legal Services or Citizen's Advice before you start making chargebacks etc.
As a case in point, whoever it was that recommended you contact OFT about MH's activities is a bit off target with their advice. The OFT will not be able to do anything to help your specific situation - they only gather evidence and, if they receive enough, may at some point take generic action against MH. If you want help on your situation in particular (which I suspect you do!) then Trading Standards are the people that you need to contact. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -

part of me feels it's pointless fighting it - he's paid them now, and theres nothing we can do?
Nothing is pointless when it comes to money!!!!As I suggested on another thread, go to Trading Standards and make a complaint about MacKenzieHall and their failure to abide by the law.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
well...as expected I suppose HSBC (who the credit card is with) have said there is nothing they can do and the money is gone...it's not their responsibility who BF gave hie credit card details to - and he didn't want to lie and say MH had taken it against his consent.
$%^&£)£"£!!! put down to experience?!
Word to the wise for anyone who gets a letter from Mackensie Hall - don't just pay it without question!!Positive vibes:

Please ignore the above post.
I would try to see if trading standards or if there is anything on the OFT website for a starter read through this
http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdf
But please do not do anything like above as you could get yourself into trouble, definately don't take it lying down but don't get yourself in trouble.0 -
Just a quick one b4 i leave this thread alone. If you had gone down my route then you would have had your money. Morning all,
Will have a look into the OFT website, thanks rayday2.
Think we now will have to seriously have to cut back and try and get the CC paid off ASAP - going to try an interesting challenge this next month and see if we can live off just my wages for a month (so BF can use his to pay off his debts - he also has a Vanquis card to pay off at about £300, as well as this MH debt £1100) so if for one month we can really have a tight rein over finances, will mean that Vanquis can disappear (I hate that card) and then he can work on the other one...
Thanks for all your help xxPositive vibes:
