You could say that you received a menacing phone call which scared you into paying over the phone but that now you are worried that the call wasn't genuine as you haven't had any prior recent correspondence so could the payment be stopped until you can check to see if the phone call was genuine?

If when you speak to the credit card company explain whats happened and then say or is it something I can claim back on credit card insurance as they have lied to get me to part with my money. Then maybe they will do a lot mroe to stop the transaction!

RAy is right. Tell them what the debt collection agency told BF and then that you have since found that the DCa was lying.

Warning, since MH have his card number, they will almost certainly re-bill him and he needs to close the card down if he gets the money back.

Never give a CC or Debt card number to a DCA.

They could ask the credit card company to lower the balance on the card for a while if they can't move the card so that there would not be enough to credit for them to take it too.

Just trying to cover all the bases.

Oh god really? We should close the account? The DCa was lying - grr! I can't believe he paid without even seeing what they were claiming he owed them for?!? $%*"£&*"£)(! but no point getting cross with him...

Our ONLY saving grace is that the CC is 0% till Oct 08! Thanks though Rayday2 :)

No Emma no point getting cross he was frightened and did what he thought was best.

RAS is there some way they could legally handle this, a body or free solicitor or CAB or something it seems so unfair?

You do not need to close the account but treat it as if the card was stolen - get a new card to stop MH re-billing.

or do as ray says and cut the limit to ust above the amount already on the card so there is no money there to pay MH if they try to re-bill him.

We have seen a number of instances on here where people have authorised one small payment and the DCA has taken the rest or additional payments without explicit consent. In one instance it was not eventhe debtors own card, but a family members.
