I don't believe that that is the case. The terms and conditions state that your credit never expires, without qualification. Earlier this month, I fished an old Virgin SIM out of a desk draw that I'd not used in over nine months. I stuck it in a handset. The SIM successfully registered with the network. And, when I checked my balance, all my credit was still there. Probably down to Richard Branson's different view of what makes good business.

You choose not to make a call, or send a text message for 180 days or more.

The operative word is of course may,but i would suggest you are taking a chance if you are going away for a long period .

I have always found there CS to be good. If i am ringing them from a landline i tend to call them on there Trowbridge No 01225 895555.As its cheaper to call then the 08456 one.

I recently got a reconditioned Moto V220 from Virgin. I've had nothing but trouble with it and Virgin customer service. With the first phone the back was damaged, so they sent another. With that phone the battery was obviously damaged as it was bulging. They promised to replace it, nothing happened. It took at least 4 calls to customer services to get a replacement battery, and I'm far from happy.

To be fare, up until now I've been happy with Virgin Mobile, but after all the trouble I've had with the V220 and another phone and their customer service people, I'm planning to use up my credit and switch to Tesco's mobile.

If you have no problems, Virgin are fine, but if you need to contact Virgin customer service, God help you.

I must agree with this statment I also had a v220 Refurb off virgin and it went back 4 times before they sent me a working one. This surprised me as i have 3 other refurbs (diferent bands inc Nokia, Phillips and Panasonic) and they are all still working perfectly, Virgin did replace my v220 strait away with out argument and i have had no other major problems with them.

I have been with Virgin for years and have had no problems but as soon as I had a problem it would seem that their CS are completely unable to deal efficiently or politely with a situation.
I bought two phones for friends returning to the UK. As I used my credit card and their address for delivery, it seemed to rimg alarm bells with Virgin.
Although they accepted the order, delivered them, they immediately blacklisted the phones so they did not work. After an hour waiting for a reply from their CS, they told me what they had done. They would then arrange for the phones to be picked up. Despite offering to pay with other cards and proving who I was, they will now have paid for Lynx couriers to deliver, allowed the customer to open the phones, open the SIMs, scratch off the airtime voucher, charge the phone and generally make a mess of brand new packaging. They then sent 2 Special Delivery envelopes AND ordered a courier to pick them up BOTH to the wromg address (the address they think was fraudulent!!).
I now still have the phones and await another courier.
Messages are never replied to within 48 hours and there is no apology for any of this.

It seems such bad business practice not to try to sort out a problem. None of the staff seem to be empowered to do anything beyond what their screeens tell them and all for two of their cheapest phones.

So - all in all - if you simply plan to get a SIM, no problem (I just checked a SIM last used 5 years ago and was pleased to see it still had all its airtime intact) - anything beyond that - beware, it may be too complicated for them.

Thanks. My printed copy predates that term. I always wondered how long the old situation would last. Before, the number of telephone numbers that were active, but not actively used, would have only gone up.

I notice that it doesn't say "chargeable call", so, presumably, calling 789 would count.

It was well over 180 days since I'd even turned my Virgin mobile on let alone used and I haven't been disconnected.

It has surprised me to read this thread regarding Virgin's customer service as I have always found them second to none but perhaps, as often happens, people only comment about bad service ;)

The two Virgin simcards that I have in action at the moment have not had a call made on them in months but are both still active.
