Hi,
I posted a parcel using next day delivery service with Royal Mail. Unfortunately the parcel got lost in transit and got to the intended destination after 4 weeks. My problem is it contained an air ticket which cost £700. Can I claim this money off Royal Mail?
Thanks

Not unless you purchased "consequential loss" insurance.

I always send things like that by royal mail special delivery.
This by law has been deemed delivered0 -
You say you used next day delivery..do you mean you used special delivery?
If so did you pay for the extra insurance as well as special delivery only covers up to £500

If you did use special delivery with the correct insurance then you should be OK to claim as an airline ticket does have an actual value.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Nope; RM will fight it tooth and nail, their take on these things is that an airline ticket (or similar) is merely a piece of paper worth nothing.
I disagree entirely but thats their MO.You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

Yep and they charged you an arm and a leg.
But an airline ticket is a piece of paper and without consequential loss insurance, they won't pay out unless you threaten to sue.

Do you think the threat of legal action like the Letter Before Action (LBA) that those on the mobile phone threads send to e2save when their cash back claims are rejected, would make them pay?You can have God without religion!0

Tickets and vouchers are specifically included in the terms and conditions for special delivery.
If you make an enquiry under the Royal Mail FAQ's it says the following:
Use our Special Delivery™ 9.00am service or Special Delivery™ Next Day service if you need to send valuable items (e.g. cash, jewellery, tickets & vouchers). I work in a PO and the most of the times that I sell consequential loss is for items like airplane tickets, that and legal stuff. Its the consequences of it NOT turning up the next day that you are insuring against.
I have heard of a few delayed (like yours) you will get your money back for the service you paid plus an extra payment as it was very late in getting to the destination but its a small amount 5 or 10.0 -
