Just became mortgage free 3 hours ago - apart from the £50 odd I'll leave there to avoid paying a £90 "redemption fee". I turned 41 two weeks ago

    How does it feel?

Well, to be honest, it's quite odd.

I have a good income and I'm now thinking "What do I spend it on?" Being a moneysaver, I've worked for this a long time and, now I'm here, it's very strange.

I quite like the people I work with so I don't think I'll give up my job just yet -and I'm certainly not telling my boss!!!! :-)

When I got back to my house I stood outside for 10 seconds or so thinking "It's all mine". A good feeling? I dunno - just unusual
  • Still aiming for when I am 40 - June 2010 - which is also when our fixed rate ends so no early repayment fee.....DH will be 49 and a half (mustn't forget the half - he gets annoyed when I round it up and say he's 10 years older than me when it's 9 and a half really - LOL!!!!!!)

If we don't make overpayments etc though, it will be Aug 2015 when I am 45 & he's 54... and if Mother Nature relents and gives us the little bundle of joy we have longed for then we'll have to rethink it all over again, but it would be worth it...Ahhh well...we can always dream..........

I would really like to mortgage free by the time I'm 40...but that's not as far away as I thought it was - so maybe 43 is more realistic (just over 8 years away)

if we continued to pay at our current rate in 17 years though it should be 24 years and i'll be 40 oh will be 55, however we would like to move to a bigger house which would mean bigger mortgage.
