Could be a multitude of different reasons :)

If you applied for a full current account then they'll credit check but, if you applied for a basic bank account then they generally don't.

The latter has more success due to the lack of credit check.

Maybe open a basic current account first and when they see you've been using the account properly, you have a higher chance of being upgraded.

It's always better to have your salary going in and use the debit card often, maybe have a linked savings account with some money going into it too :)

    Part of the Furniture
happened to me with nationwide and their flex acc... turns out there had been a problem with my address or something altho there were 4 CIFAS things on my file due to my last address for 4 different people... i cant work out if that means ill always get trouble when trying to get credit...

i may go down the basic acc route then try and upgrade... as i need the card by august!

Banks do take in to account your internal score with them when deciding, it's not *the* major contributing factor but, does have strength when considering a potential upgrading :)

Three answers, given them twice before ;)

    - Basic bank accounts, no debit card but all the functionality you ask for. Try HSBC as they might upgrade you to a fully fledged account with debit card if your account is conducted well.
    - Co-Op Cashminder, Visa Electron debit card as well as everything you asked for, they don't have many branches though
    - Citibank are apparently a good bet for some people

    HTH.

Some people won't be happy until you specifically and directly point them to one single bank. Then when their not suited they'll come back complaining rather than make their own choice from a multiple source ;)

    :rotfl: ;)

It's a sad fact some people want you to be a donkey for them rather than check out the choices themselves :rolleyes2

    I mustn't complain too much it'll give me a bad name ;)
