What do they want? blood??

I'm selling a number of items at £2 each just now, with P&P at 50p.
The items are posted with a 2nd class large letter stamp, which costs 40p, and obviously an envelope, and me physically getting them to the post box is covered by the balance of 10p.
Why do I not get a 5* P&P charge rating for this???? I can't possibly do it for any less
I post the item same day as payment, or the next day at the latest, and it's the same there...I can't do it any more quickly!!
Communication wise, I send a dispatch email as soon as the item's in the post box, but this still isn't good enough communication!!
I have the feeling that it may only be 1 person who's marked me down on the star ratings, but what on earth do they want-blood???
OK who wants the soapbox next?:o

and your rating would probably not be any less if you charged £1 or £1.50 for postage.0

Thats a bit unfair, based on those postage rates I would have given 5 stars. If the postage had been £1.50 I would have expected a lower rating but at cost there is no reason not to give 5 stars.0

Because ebay is ebay.... I have seen people who ONLY charge free postage that only have 4.8 stars etc for postage... funny reallyI

Doesn't surprise me!0 -
I have a friend who has sold around 4000 items since the stars were first introduced, and one of her Unique Selling Points is free postage on all sales. She has never charged postage separately, and therefore offers exactly what ebay want - transparant costs.
So why is her Star Rating for P&P only 4.6 ???? http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/designer_clothing_4_uYour purchase will be wrapped carefully in tissue paper and a catalogue bag. Postal prices inc tracking to the UK is included in the item price for 1, 2 or 10 items. Outside of the UK I charge postage at cost plus £1, just £1, not even £1 per item. We have a full returns policy for a refund or exchange for any reason, including non-fit, or simply do not like! (less P&P paid - I consider it like a travelling expense to return something to the store) Of course if we have made a mistake with the listing, we refund in full. If your item does not arrive we refund you in full & we pursue the claim
What more can she offer? How does this reflect the purpose of the star ratings? Surely free postage should be an automatic 5* applied by eBay who have taken a larger portion of fee from her, and are likely to make even more if she fails to qualify for the volume seller discounts?
On the Nortica 500 list of top sellers, only 1 of the GLOBAL top 10 will meet the cut on the new Powerseller and volume discount eligibility. http://www.nortica.com/UserArea/ebay500.asp
The stars are fundamentally flawed in design and application, and this will only become more apparent towards the end of this year as more and more decent sellers fall foul of arbitrary, subjective and indiscriminate scoring methods.
So back to the OP - buyer empowerment by ebay is going too far, and your's is a classic example of how the site is evolving.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
What do your stars need to be to get a discount?0
-
A minimum of 4.6 in the UK, but the US standard is set at 4.8!!

Well I have 4.7 at the moment, but am only a bronze power seller so no idea whether I will get a discount.0

Hhhm I have a theory on this. I am convinced that Ebay actually take a few points away every now and then to keep the sellers under control and not tempted to avoid fees by uping the postage.
I know someone in exactly the same position charges 0 for postage and yet has 4.7 for postage!!! Doesn't add up!0 -
It's a bizarre place isn't it!!!
Thanks everyone for your input, I'm glad it's not just my imagination!0
