Hi there, we get nearly all our rent paid and the full council tax but, you must get the middle rate of care. If you get the lower rate DLA you do not qualify for the full help on the rent and council tax. Also if your rent is above what they will pay for the area you live in they will only pay up to that areas maximum as they do with us and we pay the rest. We could move to a cheaper place and get all the rent but, prefer to stay put.

The difference Middle rate (or Higher rate) Care DLA makes is to remove any deduction for non-dependants, or to allow an extra component in the applicable amount called Severe Disability Premium, although the latter is only payable if no-one else lives in the home who doesn't get DLA C middle or higher (or is reg blind) and if no-one claims Carers Allowance for the DLA C recipient.
  • i get the high rate care & was told by local housing for my partner to claim carers even thogh we would only get an underlying entitlement to it.All i want is them to sort out what i have to pay, surely the can manage this.maybe half the people one this site should work for these because they seem to know know more than my l/a.

im not sure if there's a centre,i know there's a c.a.b.what i can't understand is how these arrears have come about.mom was only on her pension & got help with rent & c/t, each time they had all the documents for mybenefits & for moms pension & what ever they said she had to pay,she paid.mom was one of those people who paid a bit more than was asked.she was over £300.00 in credit on both.thanks for advice will get help & get this sorted.

If you contact whoever was dealing with your mom's affairs when she passed away they should have details of what was happening with the rent etc. and it would be helpful if you can find this out to tell CAB. They will also be able to check how much Housing Benefit and any other benefits you should be getting.

Let us know how you get on.

Yes take all paperwork to do with all claims/benefits with you to CAB so they can work out where you stand.
