Cancel cards and never have free cash on you, simple, thats how i stopped!0

Credit cards have a place in society , but it makes me mad when people say things like " they shouldn't let me spend what I can't afford" like someone holds a gun to their heads or something.0

This was on TV. Geezer gambled his financial life away and wants the bookie "D Hill" to pay for his debts, suing them.0

People should be allowed to transfer money to gambling places using whatever method they like, be it credit card, debit card or cash. Stopping the use of credit cards directly does not stop the use of overdrafts and cash advances so it's useless and merely inconveniences the responsible betters, like those making money from gambling introductory offers.0

Not that the OP will ever return to the forum, but I though I'd put in my tuppenceworth.
I'm guessing this has been prompted by the whole Graham Calvert thing.
I disagree with the OP completely. There are already restrictions from some issuers regarding gambling, and I think it's really out of order. I should be able to spend my money on whatever I like, within the boundaries of what's legal where I am.
If my card was blocked from being able to be used on gambling sites, there are a dozen ways for me to still use it to fund gambling anyway, so it's hardly been thought out properly.
Unfortunately, these government petitions don't allow me to sign saying that i DISAGREE with them. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
It's like saying ban the use of chainsaws for cutting toenails.

maybe if you'd racked up a massive debt buying designer clothes/shoes/handbags/holidays you may get more sympathy.
if this makes it harder for people to spend/ gamble money they dont have then its a good thing0 -

Yeah, totally agree. Spending money on gambling is the same as anything else for me, and although I've used my card for the occasional flutter in the past, once they started charging a cash advance fee for it I stopped that sharpish.
Gambling can become an addiction much like anything else....that gets sympathy in my book, however stopping the use of cards isn't the answer in my mind.DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!
