All these ideas are great  :D-  I've  found this item on ebay Smiley Trolley/Locker coins this is a keyring with a coin that can be detached and used instead of a £1.00 coin they can be also used for the gym, swimming pool, school, football, left luggage lockers. I have brought one for all the family they are great.
If you live near to a Morrisons supermarket they sell them for a pound and a percentage goes to Diabetes UK.

  • I don't mean to sound funny but how come soul diva keeps recommending the same seller's ID on eBay?

    Hmmmm ???
  • MarkS - thanks for the link to the "we are what we do" site (went to their homepage- very interesting!)

That little book looks just my kind of thing!

    Greenqueen

Yes, it's a great book (and website) - book even comes with free pine tree seeds and postcard! (To plant a tree and write to someone who inspired you).  Book is a bit big to fit in a stocking, but still a great prezzie.   ;)

Did you see the 50 ways to change the world page?

    [some great ideas there]  :)

Another good stocking filler is to buy the persons favourite nibbles (nuts, dried fruit, marzipan, etc) - dip them in melted dark chocolate and leave to set - then put them in a little handmade box - (just fold some coloured cardboard into a box shape and line with a little sheet of greaseproof paper). Or you could put them in a see through xmas gift bag, like the ones sold at Lakeland.

    Mark.

My stoooodent son is forever broke but has loads of music on his computer that he has downloaded (tut tut).

He has come up with the bright idea of cheap pressies for the family, he is going to research the music of his grandad's youth, also his brother and Dad (hopefully me too) and then make up compilation CDs for each of us.

I love the idea as it's so personal. Could be very cringeworthy though!

  • Baby stockings: Babies are so easy - mine's growing up too quick and I can't really get away with any more, but she was 9mnths for her first Christmas too. Babies like touchy feely things, so we filled a sock with some bright ribbons, bits of different texture fabric and some random bits she could put in her mouth for a good suck (plastic spoon, rattle, etc)!
I love that idea about the fabric scraps in the wipes packet, that would have kept her happy for hours! :D

Returning to the idea of Shoeboxes for needy children. There is an organisation called Mustard Seed Relief Missions which is also christian based who run a scheme called Love in a Box which is the same principle as the Samaritan one. They take decorated shoeboxes filled with small gifts and toys out to the Ukraine, Bosnia and Croatia. I decided to do one this year so that my 4 year old would understand that not everyone is as lucky and that Christmas is about giving too, not just receiving. She is at an age where they want everything. I am not religious but I do believe that if you can you should help to those less fortunate than yourself, and this is a small way to make a huge difference to a child's life. Some of the children who get these boxes have never had a present before. It is not too late to do a box for this year. I have shopped for this box before doing any other Christmas shopping. We are so consumer oriented in this country and these children are pleased to receive (an need) basic items like soap, flannels and toothbrushes and simple presents like crayons and paper.

I think it's great for kids to think of others less fortunate than themselves. I too have a 4 year old and we had a fun day putting the boxes together, wrapping them and dropping them off. He put one of his own toys in each box, then before we dropped the 2 boxes off he said he wanted to give the box a kiss and say goodbye. It was quite emotional it nearly brought a tear to my eye.
