Good idea, but we just split this ebay from amazon to stop them getting all tangled up...

When I buy books on ebay I warm to those who write a short description themselves rather than those who copy masses of Amazon information and reviews into their listing. If you have read the book you're selling, I find it nice if you give a few of your own words on it. If you haven't read it, just your observations help.
I've seen people listing books on bread-making, and they just say "163 pages, hardback". It doesn't draw me in! If they were to say "I haven't tried any of the recipes in this particular book, but they sound very tempting, including Pecan and maple bread, coriander and chive bread and a variety of rolls and pizzas. The photography is mouthwatering, and the instructions given in numbered steps", then I'd get a little more of a feel for the item you have in front of you. If it's a how-to book you've used, and it's worked, say so!0 -
apprentice_tycoon wrote:Squeaky - I don't like it anywhere else but here  you get squashed like a small insect, it's cosy here with lots of friends chatting, not 'let's see how quickly we can find fault' - isn't recycling unwanted goods Old Style?
So Squeaky - what do you say, I have lots of tips, there are other ebayers on Old Style, I bet thet they've got tips too but I also bet they like me they wouldn't dare go down to the ebay board for fear of being squashed. There is more generosity up here and I think that the OS ebayers would want to share what they know here rather than there....
what an awful post
to say that all other boards on this site are for people who "squash others like a small insect" or "see how quickly they can find fault" and are "not generous"
do you honestly feel that only people from Old Style are worth communicating with??
I am deeply offended by this
Martin has set up various boards so that threads are generally in a board with similar content and your threads referring to e-baying should really be on the E-bay board, even if you felt they were more Old-Style than anything else it is your comments re other boards/users that are uncalled for,
and as you indicate that you use your selling on E-bay as a source of income and your E-bay page is in your profile maybe this should be on the referrers board.I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I have to say I gree with Glad. The ebay is a very friendly board, with lots of experts on ebay who are more than happy to help out people new to ebay and any problems that people have.
Move this thread over there squeaky and let people see what a friendly place the ebay board is, infact all the boards are very friendly really0 -
Divadee I accept your point, since I've rarely met anything other than friendly help and advice anywhere on MSE, and it's unfortunate that at times things can get a bit heated in a thread, and that it can happen anywhere on MSE, so it's equally sad that this can put posters off from joining other boards.
Having a different point of view is fine, being confrontational however can lead to things getting upsetting.
This is meant to be a thread about earning Pin Money so I'd rather it stayed here for the moment.
If it moves into the realms of being very ebay specific then, as I said earlier in the thread, I'll move it over to ebay.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hi There, I've sneaked over to join in.
Honest, we don't bite on the ebay boards so why not come over and read some of the sticky posts we have about keeping safe. We've also had recent questions about car booting, and Amazon sales and selling books in case anyone is thinking about those.
The ebay board is a mix of people who buy things to sell on ebay, and others who just use ebay to sell and buy household things. For instance we often get mothers talking about listing baby items and then rebuying the next size up on ebay to save costs, so you would feel at home.
Come on over and have a look.

I'm sorry that my comments have come over in a way that I hadn't intended, having re-read them I can see how you would take offence and I apologise for this.
I do feel that there is an 'edge' to other areas of the forum and I have seen other posters on other boards recieve a put-down for their efforts rather than encouragement and this does deter me from offering an opinon elsewhere, this is just a personal opinion but I feel that I can write here, where I know who the reader is likely to be and what the feedback is also likely to be.
I wanted to share with Old Style readers a few very general pointers on how start on ebay from a beginners point of view. I have found, and I will be happy to be corrected on this, that the ebay board is used primarily to put right problems that occur when people are already buying and selling.
I wanted to suggest to people that hadn't considered selling on-line that it was worth a try, and from the comments that had in PM.s and on this and other current threads, some people were encouraged to have a go, and I suspect that they have never looked at the ebay board before but now they are likely to do so
I started a thread on Old Style a while ago about car boot sales and more recently on selling with Amazon, all with the genuine intent of sharing the experience and knowledge that I've gained over the last few years, it was done with the best of intentions in the spirit of the site as a whole where everyone chips in with what they know for the benefit of others.
I have removed my home page from the profile but it was not intended as publicity for my sales0 -
Thanks for your helpful tips AT (and others) I'm sure no offense was intended to other boards. I occasionally leave this hallowed board and have a nose around meself:eek: and have lived to tell the tale.;)
While we may use the INDUSTRY tools of other boards ebay, credit cards etc we are OS at heart and will only every be a COTTAGE INDUSTRY. With jam making season apon us we ain't got the time for too much high powered business.
The fact that we Ol'Stylers are branching out into areas covered on other boards is a sign of our growing financial confidence and succesful home and money management. In the early days (and this board is why I joined MSE) it was just about saving money. It then developed into saving money and living a better, healthier lifestyle with all that intails and then evolled still further to include self sufficiency and ecologically sound living. Now we want to make a bit of money too. A case of "I've got me breadmaker, I've made me bread and now I want Jam on it" And who can blame us! hehehehehLife's a beach!
