Tesco Clubcard change in Ts & Cs: Vouchers no longer transferable from 1 May '08

What's all this then?
On 1 May, Tesco is changing its terms and conditions meaning anyone who clubs their Clubcard vouchers together with friends and family or gives them away won't be able to. Thus if you want to do it, act quickly. It also puts a definite kaibosh on selling the vouchers on eBay.
This is because on 1 May '08 Tesco clubcard vouchers will only be usable by the person who's name is on the voucher... they won't be transferable.
Why does this matter?
Regular MoneySavers will know all about Tesco's clubcard loyalty scheme (if you don't, read the Boost Your Loyalty Points article for full info) and the money off vouchers it sends out every quarter which can be converted to four times their face value if exchanged for 'Clubcard Deals'.
It's an extremely popular way to maximise Tesco's scheme yet, although there are hundreds of deals to chose from, many people often prefer to sell the original vouchers for cash to friends and family, or even on eBay, for the buyer to convert into a deal of their choice later on.
Currently some deals do make it clear only vouchers redeemed by the clubcard holder will be accepted, but the majority didn't bat an eyelid, until now.
Got a stash of vouchers that weren't originally yours?
You've got a good two months to redeem them, so make sure you pick an eligible Clubcard Deal and convert them before 1 May. They're pretty valuable pieces of paper for what you can get, so don't wait until after this date as they'll be worthless.
Is it still a good scheme?
Absolutely. There's such an array of deals your vouchers can be exchanged for that it's very likely you'll find something for yourself. However, never base your shopping purely on the loyalty points; instead work out which is the cheapest retailer overall, and if it offers a loyalty scheme, that's a bonus.

We just have cards on the same account. So My mum and Dad are seperated and we used to put all our vouchers together. Then I spoke to customer services they sent me out extra clubcars on same account. So we now have
Me, my partner, Dad, Mum, her partner and my eldest son. All on same account. Downside is only one lot of extra points vouchers. Upside is all spending goes onto same account so no problem with swapping for deals tokens.

That is a really good idea, we all club together for big spends so I will look into doing this. Thanks shed head.Just off the border of your waking mind, there lies another time ....0

Is this the vouchers that can be "spent" in Tesco or converted into deals. Or does it apply to the extra points vouchers?ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

Hey, I didn't know you could do this in the first place!
We've got some of my mum's vouchers but we assumed we had to get one thing with hers and another with our own. Are you saying that if we do it before the end of April we can use her vouchers and ours and get a Merlin Annual Pass?0 -
Is this the same when you have vouchers in the same name, but with Mr & Mrs on separate accounts as well, or can you still use them jointly if this is the case?I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0

I have the same question, only we aren't married. We have vouchers in both names (thanks to our joint clubcard plus account) and some just in my name and some just in his name.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
Mortgages (End 2017) - £180,235.03
(End 2021) - £131,215.25 DID IT!!!
(End 2022) - Target £116,213.810 -
I have vouchers in my maiden name & my married name as I only got married last September. Do I need to use the ones with my maiden name before May 1st? They are my vouchers not someone elses & the clubcard number is the same so does that mean they'll be ok after May 1st?0

Unless things are changing, I tought they didn't look at first name, only first initial and surname?0

I think you could if you share the same address with your Mum. If not, they won't allow 2 separate households to convert vouchers towards one Deal AFAIK.
If your Mum has £27.50 in vouchers then she could convert them to a Merlin Annual Pass (costs £110 in Deals). And so could you, to get another pass, if you also have £27.50 in vouchers. But I don't think they'll allow clubbing together towards one pass if you are in different households.
I suspect the change will be that all converted Deals will come through with a surname on after May (as the more valuable Deals - e.g. holidays - do now). Is that what everyone else thinks too?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
