there is an even cheaper option than buying the usb modem payg.
just buy the skype phone at 49.99 plus top up and add the internet bolt on to the payg phone, save 40quid on modem and then just top up every 30 days or as and when required0 -
3 have now dropped the price of the usb modem to free on all tariff if signing up for 18 month0

Lucky escape for me.
A little background but hear me out....
I'm on contract with T-Mobile Web + Walk Plus - the 3G coverage is great EXCEPT IME hotel rooms/hotel locations when I need it most - So I usually end up paying 20.00 or so for WiFi in the room! In a bid to avoid this annoyance I was on the hunt for a better 3G data connection when I saw the 3 MBB adverts....
Told my sad tale to likeable 3 MAN in 3 Store who said the 3 network was much better than the old days and significantly better than T-Mobile for data services. "98% coverage" said the (now proud) 3 MAN..... I asked if their contracts were available to business users.....3 Man asks his colleagues who say...errr yes, sort of, can't you do it in your own name? To cut a long story short they couldn't sign me up without a purchase order from my company AND a deposit of 150.00 (possibly refundable but nobody knew when/how) so I left with nothing.
Then I read on Martin's 3G Modem feature that T-Mobile and 3 are in cahoots with each other on their 3G network - 3 MAN knew that I was on T-Mobile with Web & Walk Plus and he MUST HAVE KNOWN WHAT HIS EMPLOYERS HAD DONE/ARE DOING WITH T-MOBILE and should have advised me of these facts - at least I'd have been informed of the changing situation!
Hey ho........here's a link with my first ever post on this forum....

Its not fit for purpose ... period.
Having signed up, I find the following
- Am told I can access at home (Bracknell) ... but I cannot
- When connected sitting on the 5th floor by the river in the center of London
: Gives me a very slow connection speed .... in the center of London!!!
: Will drop the connection for no reason ...
Support desk is useless ... if by some weird quirk of fate you do get through to somebody who actually understands english ... you will be given the run-around and a long list of pointless things to try ... eventually they will blaim it on your hardware.
Recommendation = AVOID.0 -

That's the British way of doing business they only care about one sale not keeping a customer coming back again and again by trying to give good service.Once they have your money you are forgotten about.0 -
Be very careful here, 3 (three) mobile have charged me an exorbitant amount for going over the monthly 3GB limit. They mislead me instore by saying this was not possible, and the customer "help" is dreadful, both on the Indian no-help line and instore (Eastbourne branch anyway). I was notified (by being sent 50 messages all at once!!) 2 days after allegedly going over my limit, and later told they couldnt contact me sooner as I hadn't been online!!! Overall they charged me £39 for one month for allegedly using 3.3GB, just 10% over the 3GB, normally £15 a month, the 7GB bundle being £25. Normally I could only use less than 1GB, the download speed being so slow. Avoid if at all possible.Three 3 mobile internet is a disgraceful rip-off.0

Furthermore, I have now been told by 3 that it is possible to cap your limit, after a return visit to the Eastbourne store, where the "manager" Darren said this was not possible (although the salesman originally told me I couldnt go over the £15 a month charge even if I tried) When I phoned him to tell him he said "we just sell the contracts the way we are told to by the company!!" Also T mobile internet do not charge you if you go over, just advise you as any decent company would, not sting you for £100 a GB "overuse"!!I would switch to them but I am stitched into an 18 month contract now, even though they signed me up under false pretenses...some urgent new legislation is needed because these companies are not fit to regulate themselves, and they are taking full advantage of the situation..0
