Good idea! It's all the rage, isn't it? But even better when you sort of "know" the people you're swapping with, like through here. I have a friend who's doing a swap next week with friends. They're coming to his cottage in Flushing, a little Cornish village by the sea, and he's off to theirs in the Peak District! Sounds great!!0

Well according to "City Life" - manchester mag with all events listed and trendy sections (parmesan encrusted asparagus anyone?), Manchester is becoming a hot bed of tourism - not sure about the hot bed bit from the state of the people i've seen on the city sightseeing tour bus - more like cheese sarnies and a flask............ apparently we're very popular with the japanese due to oasis............ :rolleyes:But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green

"Cheese sarnies and a flask", you are selling it, Rage!! We'll be heading that way at some point, my boyfriend is from Manchester, but has been here for about nine years now. When he said he was moving to Cornwall, everyone he knew in Manchester said "You can't move to Cornwall, that's where you go on holiday"...! I expect he'll be back up there like a shot for parmesan encrusted asparagus though!0

blimey - people from manchester travel that far!!!!
as a child it was always the annual pilgrimage to Lowestoft (Mother thought Great Yarmouth too loud i.e. "common" - which was her fave phrase!!!) But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green

Pooky wrote:Maybe all us MSE'ers should do house swaps for holidays -- we could explore each others towns knowing that the accomodation was free - would be a great money saver - would also save having to pay someone to look after pets etc........
Anyone fancy a week by the sea? :rotfl:
and you just know there'll be a bredmaker & slocooker, wth whover you swap with:rotfl:0 -

Hey Kirsty - if it makes you feel any better, we don't have "proper" holidays, for various reasons (the main one says miaow a lot  ).
However I do try to get away for a weekend once a year, and last weekend was "it" - and to get to the point, my break was in....... wait for it......... Taunton!
It was fabulous - you have a lovely home town and I would have liked to stay much longer. I bought a pair of trousers and a top for half price in M&S sale, and had a lovely evening at the Harvester on Saturday night. On Sunday I went to my friend's house just out of town for lunch and we spent a very pleasant afternoon in her garden, before I had to catch the train home (hot, crowded, etc. - a real anticlimax
).
I would recommend your own town to anyone, but I do understand why you want a break, and I hope you can sort something out. xxx
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
