Very depressed

Afternoon all. Well it looks as if we shall have to cancel our all inclusive Cuba holiday for October, as we not cant fund it. We applied for a new credit card to consolidate all cards and pay for the holiday, but because we have been over our overdraft last month (hard month) they wont let us have it :-(

Just tell yourself you didnt really want to go... i mean.. its a foreign country where they dont speak english, the food will be all weird, you'll probably get sun burn and you'll miss MSE far too much.

Stay positive chick. Things will be ok.

*ps, the "telling myself i didnt want it " trick never works for me but it might work for you :)

Hi...I am sorry to hear this..BUT its time to get your finances in order. Please look at the debt board. Look at paying off your debt before going on your next hol. No time like the present.....
  • Hi Ancasta - thanks for the tip - might have to try that he eh!

M;ah-jong - thank you! We are really trying to get debt free and this will give us he incentive now. We are also trying for a baby later this year (was suppsed to be when on holiday!) so will need to try and tightened our belts now. No more credit cards for us now and no more spending beyond our means!

    Thank you all for reading !!!!{hugs}}}

    Hi Kirsty

Cheer up! It would be far worse to have gone on the holiday and then realised you shouldn't have - it would have ruined any happy memories. Just work on getting on top of your debts and then sometime in the future you will be enjoying a holiday knowing that it's all paid for and there's no big black debts waiting for you when you get home. Until then :grouphug:

Mind I'ld love a couple of weeks in Ireland - beats Cuba any day!

I'd love a couple of weeks anywhere out of the UK....but finances don't allow at the moment. Thus is life though. I don't want any nasty debts in order to pay for an 'extravagance' (in my eyes anyway) and will keep on saving. The holiday will be much nicer if I know that I've paid for it all.

I find that the more time I spend on here, the less money I actually spend as I come to realise that not EVERYONE has loads of money and are actually in the same boat as me. It's difficult to think that you're the only one that's skint when you see all your friends spending loads of money (or they seem to).

I'd love to go to Ireland again. Sigh. Lovely place - and like you say, quality time with the oldies is always good. Makes you feel like you've done a good deed. (I spent the weekend with my parents and grandparents and now feel good about myself)

Our "main" holiday this year is the Lake District in 2 weeks time. We're staying in a cottage that we've rented with some friends. We've (OH and I) have saved up for this hol by saving our coppers and 20ps throughout the year. Our friends, on the other hand, are having another break later in the year - if only, sigh!

I'll be down in your neck of the woods later this year though, when my best friend gets married just outside Chard. I've sniffed out the cheapest B&B round there, without having to stay in a shed!

Take care Kirsty, and remember there are lots more of us in that boat with you! It's always nice to know that you're not the only one, even if it seems like that at first. :)

Kirsty: just remember staying in is the new going out!!!! I know what you mean though - we haven't been able to afford a holiday this year and we didn't really have a proper one last year as although OH was working abroad we spent all our time travelling to meet up and much as I love Munich airport you can get sick of it!!! :D Our holiday this year has been a trip to Fountains Abbey - and glorious it was too!!!! So, I would say have a scoot around your local library and get as much info as you can on free days out - on sunday we watched a medieval archery and fire power display!!!! and it was free!!!! hurrah! :j okay you have to buy the petrol but it's a lot less than flying to cuba..... think of art galleries, museums, the seaside, country parks oh i could go on and on!!!!! pretty soon you'll be wondering how you had the time to go on holiday!!!!

and as for your debts - don't forget the library for copies of Sir Alvin of Hall's books - pay the dearest card off first - even if it means beans on toast every night (not that that would be a hardship for OH  ). I've only got two to go and they're not even my expenses (all stuff for when we had the house extended, e.g. ikea and then OH carelessly got made redundant!!!!) and remember the OS mantra - YOU CAN ALWAYS GET IT CHEAPER!!!!! :j
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
