  • Hiya Vicky thanks you son much for your post - really made me feel like I am not alone on this one. oooo Chard is just round the corner - will be waving frantically in your direction! It is always good to hear from others on here as to how they cope, as all my friends seem to have money coming out their ears (esp my best mate in London who is married to a millionaire and lives in £750,000 house!

  • Thans so much for your post rage! There is a definite reason I bought so much food shopping - so at least when we are really poor at the end of the month we have some luscious homecooked food in the freezer just waiting to be bunged in the oven. Off now chaps - ferret visiting calls - thank you all so much for your kind words - this site really is the best!

    Hi Kirsty

Just think, you are giving yourself a MUCH better present than 2 weeks holiday which will be over with in a flash. You are giving yourself FREEDOM, no debt means that you don't have to give your money to anyone else, it is yours to do exactly what you like with, the liberty of not answering to anyone else with your payslip will be so much more enjoyable & empowering than lazing on a beach and relaxing only to forget how relaxed you are as soon as you hit the airport for the return journey.

Take the time off work anyway & invest it in yourself, do the things you love doing & don't usually ahve the time to do : visit relations & freinds, go shopping in the middle of the week when the shops are empty, laze in bed all day, have a picnic in the park, get drunk at lunchtime & sleep it off in the afternoon....all the things you won't have time to do when you start a family!

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!

You are not the only ones to have to cancel a holiday, we have had to curtail ours as we had to spend almost £1000 on our car, we had saved up the cash to spend 7 weeks in France with our caravan, instead we are going for 9 days (the tunnel was paid for and I was not going to loose the £200) and spending a few days in Kent..... a bit different to 7 weeks in the south of France, but thats life.

I was very angry at first I had worked hard selling stuff on ebay to raise the cash, but thats how the cookie crumbles so I have just had to get on with it.

Tootles, that's horrible. When you've saved so hard for it and know that that's where all your efforts are aimed...flaming cars!!!!!!! They have a nasty habit of doing that... I got rid of ours last year, but am in a fortunate position to be able to do without. It's been quite liberating, but isn't possible for everyone. I hope you have a perfect nine days, all the same.
  • Good mronign all thanks again for all your kind comments. Lillibet - they are some fab ideas and we will definitly be incorporating some of them.

Tootles that is so sad to hear about your holiday - but at least you still get to go for a little while and will have loads of ufn I bet!

I did wonder a few times what was happening last week when I was away. Is that sad?!...I think probably it is, a touch...

Not really, I get withdrawal symptoms as well - I like to think of you all as my support group - and I don't have to tell you all about my childhood :rotfl:

Lillibet: Picnic in the park and getting drunk? Is that at the same time? I'm not sure we can sanction such behaviour........ ;)
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Maybe all us MSE'ers should do house swaps for holidays -- we could explore each others towns knowing that the accomodation was free - would be a great money saver - would also save having to pay someone to look after pets etc........

Anyone fancy a week by the sea? :rotfl:
