  • Not sure if this helps buy my husband has an MBNA card and he also got a letter saying his interest was going from 16.9% to 24.9%. He called them and told them he never missed a payment, never paid late and always paid above the minimum payment so if they insisted on continuing with this he would stop paying and take the case to the financial ombudsman. After a bit of spluttering from them about how if he paid more he would pay his debt of quicker (how they worked this out with a higher interest rate I don't know) they backed down and left the interest as it is!

They won't back down with us either, but then, we've only ever paid interest once, otherwise we tart with it.

  • I phoned to cancel my Payment protection with them, it took 45 minutes, I got put through to person after person and then got a long lecture explaining how if I died or got really sick my Mum would have to pay my debts - all this despite me explaining that my job had benefits and insurance and i didn't need their insurance honestly you'd think I was killing my granny.

I moved my BT from them to Egg, just because I keep reading horrid things about MBNA.

I tihnk it depends on the person you get in the call centre. it really is pot luck.

    good luck everyone.

If you die and there is no money to repay the debts out of your estate (after funeral expenses have been paid) the debts die too...

Has anyone had any joy getting them to reduce their APR?
Is it even worth me sending them a snotty letter? Do you think they will just ignore it?
Do they know from my credit score that I can not transfer away from them?

Just wana say it again...I hate Virgin/MBNA...think I am going to put that it in my signature

  • This doesn't sound good. to be honest i didn't even read the letter last week since im on a DMP. Wonder how this will affect me now. :(
  • I opened a letter from MBNA yesterday which informed me that my APR would be rising from next month, from 17 odd % to 34.9 too.
could not believe it , i have a balance of 3 grand which at the moment is on 0% untill June.
I phoned them to complain, girl was adamant she could not do anything and was quite rude. but i stood my ground and told her thatif she could not get someone who could help me i would close my account. she apparently went to speak to a manager and came back and said the would keep it at 17%. i know they will try it on again in a few months.
this is robbery and there is no way they are getting 35% out of me, whatever i have to do I will clear that balance.
  • if they have refused to do anything for you stand your ground and demand.
  • Same here 34.9%... just shifted 860 to lloyds.. but stuck with the rest....

in with this months Lloyds cc statement, changes they are making... "we will charge you a fee of £12 for each month you do not repay the full amount you owe. This is a new condition...

    You cant win can you?
