Id love the idea of doing it. I imagine it to be like the film, the holiday. If only it would go like that!
I would be worried about people going through my stuff i guess!0 -
the rules are against you on this one
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=305655
PERSONAL DETAILS AND THE OFFERING OF ITEMS FOR SALE/TRADE/EXCHANGE/SWAP/GIFTS
Please refrain from requesting the exchange of personal details either on the forum, via PM or email; particularly for the purposes of selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts. This includes posting links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.
If someone appears to be selling items on the board it may be deleted by the board guides/forum team. The aim is to protect site users as however honourable the intention, your safety is paramount.
ADVERTISING
This site is free from advertising. Posts on any board considered to be advertising goods, services and/or companies will be removed. We also do not allow advertising via PM
Examples of this can include anything from a specific sales post or a link to your own website in which you attempt to sell something to someone offering their holiday home to forum members. Unfortunately we cannot allow any advertising of any description no matter how honourable the intention.
This includes the Referrals Board (see below).
If you think you have a genuinely good deal please contact a Board Guide for the board you’d like to post it on. If they agree with you they’ll contact the MSE Team and it will be considered. Any final decision will be that of the MSE Team. Please do not question the response with the Board Guide.Ex forum ambassador

My post about a beach front villa for my semi was a joke!
Is that why it was removed.
Honestly moderators/people in charge, it was a joke.0 -
Oh dear! Thanks for all that information. I can understand the reasoning behind SOME of the rules you've outlined but my intentions in starting this thread were simply to save money on holidays, and not to advertise or make personal gain. Just for MSE forum people to help each other out, as they are doing in many different ways on many different threads.
At least there has been some discussion and attempts to work out how feasible house swapping for holidays would be. I thought the 'swapping' you mention as against the rules would be more about permanent swaps of consumables rather than temporary swaps of houses for holidays.
To repeat, the intention was to save money. Also I thought some people, including myself, who have pets which make going away difficult, would have a chance of a holiday at no cost and while their pets were being looked after by the house swapper.
So after you have outlined the rules, would you say there is no point now in continuing this thread? Thats how it feels to me - I feel totally flattened. I give up!0 -
it's more the swapping of personal details, thats why I highlighted to bit "no matter how honourable the intention"
you would need to approach the abuse team for permission to do it and I suspect they would say no
it was not a dig at anyone in particular , I just happened to spot the thread and thought I would point out the stumbling blockEx forum ambassador

OK thanks for that - I was just looking again at the part where you say 'or a link to your own website in which you attempt to sell something to someone offering their holiday home to forum members. '
The point was that it wouldn't have been a 'holiday home' but the ACTUAL HOME that would be offered as a temporary swap - that's very different from trying to rent out a holiday home to forum members.
I can see that you need to enforce/remind us of the rules but I feel sad that this idea is now dead in the water - you have said that you suspect the answer would be 'no' if I pursued it - I find this a little disappointing also. The case hasn't been heard but the answer is going to be no. I really do give up. So many of us have our own homes and no holidays so it would have been very very constructive and useful and moneysaving to be able to use them!0 -
ive thought about this for a while, we live in york'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Hi everyone
While the intention, i.e., the MoneySaving idea, is great, at the moment for everyones' safety we can't encourage site users to exchange personal information with each other.
That said, there's no harm in continuing this thread as a discussion where everyone shares tips on how to do it and links to websites that might be useful.
I hope that helps
Take care

'we can't encourage site users to exchange personal information with each other'
I dont think anyone is asking you to 'encourage' it Andrea. Any information shared on this forum is at the disclosers own risk surely, as it is on any other forum.0 -
princess,
If people start swapping information on here, it can have legal implications for the website. It is not fair to put the owners of the website in that position.Gone ... or have I?0
