Ryanair Hand luggage

Comments

  • We flew last week from Stansted to Palma return. Ryanair staff were checking hand luggage size just before the gates. I did think have a quick panic but our bags were ok. Didn't see them charge anyone though.

the size for hand baggage is the overall size - it has to fit in the blue cage if asked, and yes, I recently saw several people have to pay to have their bags checked into the hold right at the gate just before they walked onto the tarmac when their bags didn't fit.
i am also told by a friend that on a recent flight from stanstead they also weighed selected hand luggage as passengers went through security.

I have used these a few times and not been stopped yet. If I do it looks like I will have to break wheels and feet off to make them the correct size.

    1. Yes, I believe that I am now quite knowledgeable on the subject of Ryanair hand luggage - having taken the time to read the many fairly recent threads about the subject as they developed.

    3. I don't profess to be an expert on anything, however I do read a lot of the posts on here most days which means that a. I learn a lot, and b. I believe it qualifies me fairly well to be able to point out if a subject has been covered recently and if that information is to be found quite easily by doing a forum search.

    2. You must really be at a loose end if you have taken the trouble to read right back through my post history to determine how frequently I suggest people do a forum search. If you would like to be my stalker can you please submit the necessary application in triplicate by post to arrive by close of business on Friday.

I don't see anything wrong in advising people that a subject has been covered previously. Perhaps I can refer you to part of the sticky thread at the top of this page entitled 'Welcome to the Travel Board - please read before posting'

    3) Start a New Thread
Don't forget to []search[/URL] before posting a thread - there may already be useful info from past topics.

What a tool. Why don't you just answer the question instead of trying to be a smart !!!!? If you know so much you should be able to help.

Having travelled with just hand luggage I know it's not really checked for size and weight if you check in online, so if its dimensions are more or less right you'll probably be fine but it depends on whether you want to risk it or not.

Welcome to the board. What a first post:

I have been involved in discussions about this and still don't know if the measurements include wheel and handle. The conversion rates mentioned below confused me more

So I went to our local airport, tried the cases in the cage, no problem they went in easily with plenty of room to spare widthwise, checked with a ryanair representative there to be sure and she agreed they are fine.

However the email I got from Ryanair last week converted the size of metric to imperial incorrectly

    Quote *
    CABIN BAGGAGE:
The following cabin baggage restrictions apply per person (no infant allowance):
Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm* is permitted. (handbag, briefcase, laptops, shop purchases, camera etc). MUST be carried within your permitted 1 piece of cabin baggage). IMPORTANT - Extra/oversized cabin baggage will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of £35/€35. If you are unsure, check at the Bag Drop desk before going through security.

    *Imperial measurements for cabin baggage (21” x 15”x 7”)
    end of quote*

Should be 21.7" x 15.7" x 7.9" (correct me if I am wrong, I did the conversion online).
Not a big difference but why can't they do it correctly, if people want to measure in imperial it can make a difference.

Why as a newbie are you raking up a post from April 2009 a point made almost 15 months ago :eek::eek::eek:
The posts about Ryanair hand luggage are on the threads constantly, one thread hardly finishes till another 1 has started so WHY HAS THIS ONE BEEN RESURRECTED ?????????????
& just on a friendly note I've travelled with Ryanair @ least 4 times since then from different airports & my hand luggage has either been checked on the way out or return journey & as always it complies with dimensions & weight, much to Ryanairs dismay :D:D:D:D

I agree with the other posters.
If anybody is a "tool" it's you.

As Incapuppy says, answers to a lot of questions asked can be found by using the 'search' tool - that's what it's there for.
Alternatively, a quick Google can give the definitive answer, not the opinion of forum members.

Google is quite useful when there's a right and wrong answer - get the information straight from the horse's mouth.

And your comment about "knowing hand luggage is not checked for size and weight" just shows how little you know.

I've seen lots of people (not just those travelling with Ryanair) being asked to put their hand luggage into the measuring cage or onto the scales.

Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

    And for Trisha:
I have been involved in discussions about this and still don't know if the measurements include wheel and handle.
dimensions DO include wheels and handles.

Wrong I'm afraid, it certainly is checked for both size and weight at Alicante airport, that includes passengers that have checked in online.
