Does that apply in all circs? I have just gone to dispute over an item which was not the one advertised, they admitted they sent the wrong thing but then stopped responding to emails. I returned it, and have heard nothing more.

Did you go through the complete dispute process and did paypal find in your favour? Also as fay asks, did you return the item fully tracked and has the seller had it back?

If so then get back to paypal immediately and insist they not only close the dispute but they issue the refund ASAP.

……..In this case though - make her send it back - you don't have to reimburse her for that postage! And make her do it recorded too, since she has to prove that she's sent it back by trackable means (otherwise paypal won't pay out). You'll have to refund the £2.84, but you can take some glee in the fact that she will have to pay the same postage to send it back to you (£1.20) PLUS the £0.60p that it will cost to send it recorded. From what you've said you're pretty much guaranteed to get a neg anyway, so you don't have anything to lose.

    ;)

IF the goods were damaged I can’t actually see any reason the buyer should end up out of pocket

I'd personally ask for the top back for it to be inspected before refund - some people will eopen a package with scissors, cutting an item like that or even tear it when putting on (if its sheer) - then try and con the seller into a full refund.

on an item that sold for 99p?
  • Why not? If its important enough that the buyer wants refund then its important enough to send back. The cost is immaterial. Unfortunately there are so many people out there trying to get something for nothing that it makes you disbelieve even the honest ones.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Refund and block her, life's too short.

In a paypal dispute the buyer gets the full amount originally paid back,so that includes the p and p paid. The only thing they do not get back is the return postage.

If there is any possibility that the goods are not exactly as described then tell the seller to send the item back and on receipt you will refund the original payment in full.

Once the paypal payment has been refunded unmark it as both paid and despatched in your ebay and then send a mutual reclaim of fees dispute to get your FVFs back. As long as you appear willing a friendly to help the buyer there should be no reason why they won't help you get your FVFs back. This, BTW is the ONLY time I ever advocate doing a mutual.

When I had a dispute with paypal over an item Not as Described I got the money back but not the p&p. Also I had to send the item back at my own cost, even though the Seller was at fault.

There's been some interesting stories told on here in the past about things like that - especially the seller who had a buyer tell them they'd cut the top while opening the package and they wanted another XD

  • If it was me, I would tell her to keep the top and refund the full amount. It's not worth getting neg feedback for a few quid. When you have neg feedback that the only one people read.

if the buyer was being obnoxious, then i would be tempted to say the item hadnt been returned. its unlikely the buyer would use a trackable method.

then i would maybe refund the 99p in good faith!
    Get some gorm.
