Anyone know how to get the phone number?

Ask your Postie for an FIB (Form in Box) card and its usually on the reverse.

It's got to be said that since the change over to single daily delivery in May 2004, Postal services have suffered, but so have the Posties. You will find that it is usually the drivers who are the 'Laziest' of the Posties, as when they sort the mail in the mornings, they tend to lookout for addresses on parcels that they have attempted delivery for earlier that week. If they find something to a same address that they have carded, they check in the office to see whether the previous item has been collected, if not, more often than not, they will put the second item with it, without issuing another card, the theory being that the customer has to collect the first item, so to save a journey, they can collect the second item. Please remember that these Lazy drivers have to be at work at 0500, general sort mail until 0530, sort their individual walks, regardless to how much mail there is, sort out the larger packets and parcels, get into their vans and deliver the packets and parcels, drop off various walks bag drops, deliver all the special deliveries, then do their individual walks, all through rush hour traffic, and be finished by around 1200.
I will offer my congratulations to the poster who complained that there was still a packet waiting for them since May, as most Delivery offices will only keep mail for the past 4 weeks. I just have to ask though, what were you doing that was so important that you couldn't collect a carded packet that you were waiting for, for 42 days?

May 2004!!! The second post where I live was cancelled in the mid-90s (I'm in Greater London). I had assumed the whole country was the same until people started protesting about the second post being cancelled last year!

Exactly the same here. Greater london and no second delivery for many years.

In fact when it switched nationally to one delivery a day my post actually changed at first to 4 or 5 deliveries a week rather than one per day. When I complained they said that the post men had to return undelivered items to the office every day rather than deliver everything and claim overtime. To make this fairer they apparently changed the walk so that one set of houses was never always last on the walk and subsequently got no post at all, ever.

The local MP had to intervene and now we usually get one delivery per day, sometimes though we do miss the occasional run.

    Soo

Ouch! I never realized things were so bad down South. I know that after the payout for the big bonus earlier this year, that each individual sorting office is now to be judged on its own merit, therefore if they wish to make a bonus next year, they have to pull their fingers out, they need to cut down their costings and up their performance, or go without. What I do know is that Posties in The London area take home more money each week than the rest of the country.

I'm the orginal poster and the packet that had been left at the sorting office from May had not been carded.
I only recieved ONE card and that was for the most recent parcel.
So forgive me for not using my telepathic powers, clearly they are needed thanks to lazy posties.
If the job is too much for them, go get another job.

Thats a great idea. Lose all the experienced posties, and have just casuals. Then you really would have something to complain about, wouldn't you.

Fact is, and no doubt will be denied, the postie left a card but it it thown out with junk mail etc. Postal workers are in the main, decent people who abide by a code of conduct and will try to deliver all mail as soon as they have it thrust upon them. The 'failures' are usually down to members of the public who think the world revolves around them.

The standard answer from the Royal Mail! You don't work in RM customer service do you? It's everyone else's fault but theres. Now why didn't I realise that it is my fault that the postman manages to leave a card without even knocking and when I chase after him he hasn't actually got the item with him? Why didn't I realise it's my fault when a postie drops a recorded delivery letter through my letter box without getting a signature or even removing the sticky label? Why didn't I realise it's my fault when I pay for special delivery and find that the item was signed for by someone else in a different property who can't be traced? If "junk mail" causes such a problem, why do the Royal Mail deliver so much of it themselves (i.e. leaflets, non-addressed envelopes, newsletters, etc)? If their cards are so easy to miss, why don't they make them bigger? Anyway, now we know, it is the customers fault for everything that is wrong with RM.

I have to say our postie is fab, helpful and friendly and oftern goes out of his way to help, however when he is off they usualy get a temp to cover his round and we have had letters soaking wet and shredded etc, when we get good posties we should look after them!!! :D

How dare you imply I threw out the card with junk mail.
The Royal mail has been dubbed Royal Fail and I wonder why?
Clearly you are an 'overworked' RM worker or the company's spokesperson because no other explanation can justify the utter rubbish you're blabbing on about.
At the end of the day this lazy worker could not be arsed to do his job and I am not the first and will definitely not be the last to suffer from the RM incompetence.

Nope, try a little more front line than that. I don't sit on my backside with a telephone line between me and the customer, my Customer Service skills are used face-to-face on a daily basis. Yes, I know every trick in the book, and yes I admit that there are many bad apples within RM, just the same as you get theives and rouges in every sector of life, only OUR customers dont get to see them as much as we do. We have a broad selection of staff within Royal Mail, from Graduates to school dropouts, chancers to highly dedicated staff, and beleive me, we work damn hard for our money, I never had to work this hard as a sales manager. I understand and accept that things go wrong, whether it be because of human error or human stupidity, but surely, if you believe the service to be as bad as Pennywise has stated you would persue a complaint through Postcomm.

I dare imply a great many things as I have seen it all, pal. Royal Mail DO's have limited space and cannot store mail for more than three or four weeks, this resulting to thousands of items of mail, special deliveries, recorded deliveries, packets and parcels being left back at DO to be stored until it is returned to sender or destroyed. An item which was standing since May would have been long gone even if it were carded.
