Have I got the laziest postman in the world?

I'm for ever buying off ebay and have recently noticed a lot seem to go 'missing' in the post.
Some sellers have been helpful when I queried my goods, some downright rude.
Anyway I went to pick up a parcel today and the girl came back with seven packages.
Only one was connected to my collection card!!
She said she recognises my name so put them all in one pile but I should have come and collected them ages ago, some dated back to May!!
I didn't recieve one card for any off them, clearly the postman couldn't be asked to let me know he tried to deliver a parcel.
I have repaid for items which the sellers refunded but I am angry with Royal Mail.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I've had this problem. My normal postman is a lovely, lovely person who doesn't complain when he has to lug yet another parcel up the drive. But we had this temporary postman for a few months once and exactly the same thing happened to me. I got this card one day saying I needed to collect the parcel. When I got there the chap went out to the back to get it. He was gone ages and when he came back he had another 2 parcels! He didn't look very impressed when I told him that no cards had been put through the door.

I've just recently had a problem but the other way round. I sent a buyer some books she'd won on Monday (11th) first class and the arrived today (Sat)!!!! I went down to the PO to find out what was going on on Thursday and he said that they should have arrived at the latest on Wednesday - I'm glad that they turned up, but it kind of worries me about our postal system.

I am guessing that it's more likely to be a postperson driver at fault rather than your regular postie - but yes it's kind of sad to see the way the postal services have declined over recent years (speaking as an ex-postman - I left in '96 and it was going to pot then!).
Will be interesting to see what happens when the monopoly goes nextyear - and what services rivals will be offering.

Parcel delivery people here often don't bother waiting for anyone to get to the door, if they even bother to ring the bell. I have had parcels left on my doorstep before now when there is no-one in.

my postie is brill... if no-one is (and its a dry day) he'll put the parcels over our gate into the back garden. :) Saves a trip to the sorting office..

i had a large parcel "delivered" by parcel2go i think it was (dhl) and they didnt even leave a card... took me contacting the seller and getting a tracking code to check on their site where the parcel was..only to find it had been sitting in their depot for 5 days after "no answer at delivery address" on a day i KNOW both me and mum had been in all day. It then took them another 5 days and alot of phone calls for them to actually get round to re-delivering the item again!

Our regular "van driver" is brilliant - if there's no one in at home, he actually brings it to my office (a mile away but he drives past on his way back to the depot). You can't get better than that. (I suspect he's not supposed to do this but it works for me!).

    Then you get the temps.....

Plenty of times I've picked up several parcels, all different dates, when only 1 cards has been left. A few times, the sender has contacted me after the item has been returned "uncollected" from them. And I've sent a few items special delivery which have bounced back to me after the recipient hasn't collected them (claiming no card was left). Once, I was actually in and heard the postman drop something through the letterbox (didn't knock) - it was the dreaded "while you were out card" - I chased after him and he had to admit that he didn't even have the parcel with him - he'd just "assumed" I wouldn't be in!!!!

You get good and bad in every organisation, but I think RM has more than it's fair share of the bad.

Our postal service varies  We have one regular postie who is great, okay so he may not arrive until 4pm+ some days but I don't mind, it's the days he doesn't turn up and then we get half a rainforest through our door when he next calls that bothers me (especially when there are credit card bills to pay or Readers Digest Draw papers that need to be returned in 7 days).

Our address seems to be at the "change of bundle" stage of the street - I regularly pick up the post from behind the door and as I'm looking at who it's for more will come through then I find a load of elastic bands outside the door. At least I have the time to grab him though if something is wrong - like the time he was a house ahead of himself for the whole of our street so we all got nextdoors post :rotfl::rolleyes:

I live about 5 minutes walk from the sorting office and my only complaint is the stupid opening hours. I've actually turned up there at 9.55am to find it shut! They do their best, but apparently the people who have moved into our old house across the street are still getting post for the people who lived there in 1999 even though we use to "return to sender" any that we got and I went to the sorting office to report it!

We still get post for someone who used to live in this house and moved in 1999 as well. One day I found the "Forward mail for Mr X to this address until further notice" that the sorting office use through our door so I kept it and now I forward the mail myself

If we have any problems they're usually at the sorting office end - which reminds me, I need to find the phone number for our local office as my birthday card from my grandad-in-law still hasn't arrived and my birthday was in January! Anyone know how to get the phone number?
