Shutters - anyone got them? Would you recommend them?

Options
Thinking of getting wooden shutters for our front room bay window. It's south facing so quick sunny. Are they very expensive?! Any recommendations?
Thanks.

A few million Europeans would say they're worth it!

But will they enhance the appearance of your property? Will they make your property look out of place on a traditionally English estate?

Why do you think they might be a good investment? Will you keep them closed in cold weather to conserve heat, and close them in hot weather to avoid using air con?

Are you considering them as a security measure?

If you can answer the questions the right way, then they may be a good investment for you.

Will the shutters be on the inside? I've seen a few older houses with shutters inside and they're nice. I don't like them on the outside though. They remind me when Billy Corkhill got some fake ones in Brookside lol

Good golly they would definitely be on the inside. Definitely won't be going for the Billy Corkhill look!
It's a 1930's link detached and I think it would improve the look of the house. We want them to look aesthetically pleasing, the warmth and convenience would be advantages. I don't want nets and as it's a busy enough road I want some privacy. I imagine they're fairly pricy and wondered if they're worth it and who's good at providing them.
    Thanks for your replies!

I thought they'd be on the inside, but droopsnout's post made me wonder!
Sorry, no help in the cost department. Just my opinion that, yes I like them lol
  • I love interior shutters, just ordered some for my house. If you are in North London I can tell you where I got them from. The wife teaches at my son's school so I know they are trustworthy.

Thanks. We're in Birmingham so I think they may find that a bit far too travel? Can you give me an idea of what you're paying, is it for bay windows?

Oops! I didn't even know interior wooden shutters existed!!

Could anyone point me to a website so that I can join the 21st century? Thanks!

This could be a good website. http://www.thecaliforniacompany.co.uk/

We have some and they worked out about £150 per square meter. They were from our local builders merchant though.

    Thank you. Very interesting.

They look very smart, but I don't fancy painting them! And do they gather dust?

I'm a bloke, you see, and allergic to dusters. ;)

  • We are paying £1500 for 5 shutters, but we got a discount because I know the wife. Two of the windows are quite small and no, they are not bay windows. Some of the quotes we had were up to £2,500, it really pays to shop around.
