Yeah, something else, anything other than a Fiat unless you have a lot of money to waste.:rolleyes:0 -
best and truest statement on this thread,as poster above said, check most garages, why are a lot of puntos for sale? gagarge i went to had more punto,s(2002-2005 model)than any other carYeah, something else, anything other than a Fiat unless you have a lot of money to waste.:rolleyes:Live in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0 -
betetr make sure you have a lot of money to pay for all those visits to the garage.
Go for something Japanese or German - best reliability broadly speakingHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -

Well I am a member of fiatforum.com and I know that they said in there that puntos can have dodgy ECU - not all of them of course, and hopefully not yours or mine but it is apparently a fairly common occurence.
Was it fiatforum you asked? If not, ask them. They are the people whom I learned about the keys from.0 -

which reminds me, within a month of buying it the lander (sp?)sensor failed and it took weeks to diagnose because the dealer was looking for a faulty ECU rather than the sensor because symptoms were similar....0 -
I haven't read all the replys as yet but we are on our second Fiat Punto and have loved them both. First was an older one..can't remember year and our curent one is the same as you are looking at. we have had this one 2 years and bought it with a mileage of 30k, it has been fab, we have not had it serviced at all and it has passed both MOT'S! it is cheap to run, very good with petrol and suprisingly spacious (im a childminder so i should know!)
We are selling it towards the end of the year just because we fancy a change and while it's still in good nick get something for it!!
Good luck and don't listen to all the negagtive reports (or the ones iv'e read!) unfortunately everyone with a bad mishap with their Punto will be on here! you will find the same with any car!0 -
Aaah another thing i noticed was the 2 key thing..i dont have 2 keys..if i should have i have done ok without them lol..0

The main things to check are the power steering as the electric pump can die - you're looking at approx £275 + vat for a re-con unit plus fitting and also the front windscreen wipers as the linkages can wear. You cannot replace just the linkages and have to replace the whole motor and linkage set-up. Brand new genuine ones can be had for £65 + VAT.
Also the 1.2 engines suffer from rusting sumps - price is about £45 + VAT and fitting.Cover me in honey and fling me to the hermaphrodites!0 -
Id hate to be the buyer of your car then, 2 years and no service, no wonder you think its cheap to run!we have not had it serviced at all and it has passed both MOT'S! it is cheap to run, very good with petrol and suprisingly spacious (im a childminder so i should know!)

Gabyjane...........
Bragging about not having it serviced? And you are a childminder? Mind boggles.
May be hard to sell if you have only one key - unless you trade it in.Genie
