  • I dont see why you've had all those problems. I've bought various things off them, including mobo/cpu, hard drive and power supply and had no problem with speed or quality.

The measure of how good a company IMHO isn't as much to do with how often things go wrong but more importantly how they handle things when they do go wrong. Have you ever had a problem with one of your components and had to go through a replacement process with them? If not then it's hard to judge whether the posters having problems are a normal occurence or not. Things are going to go wrong, components do go faulty no matter go consistent or good the company is (they have no control over a boxed logitech mouse going wrong after 3 months for example) so the fact some people won't have products going wrong really doesn't indicate a reflection of how good or bad the company/retailer itself is (unless they manufacture their own goods).

good to hear you've not had problems miserychild,
hard to say what % of eclipse customers are unhappy - maybe most (ie over50%) are happy.

normal ? well hard to say - I would say though that I am convinced that Eclipse product reliability particularly re PCs is worse than other PC makers.
if you google Eclipse you find the host of complaints above yet if I google Dell, Evesham, Chilblast I find 1,2 or if I look hard 3 customers angry re their PCs. not dozens !! why !!??
And its not as if Eclipse are a big company.

and yes I have had problems with them: as I described (below).
you're right its how companies deal with problems - and Eclipse failed me and many others, delivering a product faulty on arrival and refusing to collect it under their premier30 warranty despite my both reporting the fault and requesting it be fixed within 30 days. Whats with their asking me to contact the monitor maker ? that seems unhelpful !! if I was nasty I'd wonder if that was a deliberate unhelpful suggestion to delay me beyond 30 days !

"my graphics card was faulty (red tint on screen) when delivered and was reported and repair under the warranty requested within 30 days yet Eclipse refuse to collect as I would expect under the Premier30 warranty.

I can understand a company would want to see if such a problem could be fixed in situ but IMO delaying with unhelpful suggestions such as "contact the monitor maker" when the prob could be quickly traced to the card - and then refusing to collect saying "now you're out of the collection period" is not the best

problem compounded as after 2 months from delivery (3 months from ordering !!!) the DVD tray has jammed in the out position."

well thats true and of course they do manufacture their own PCs and many of the many complaints concern how well built their PCs are.

its a shame that PC Pro are now plugging the latest Eclipse Zenith i82n98GTX without mentionning Eclipse's bad web feedback leading to raised eyebrows on the PCpro forum every time they get a plug

Reminds me when I got my first PC, it was a Polar Technology one that was given A-List recommendation in PC Pro. Company was awful and eventually went into liquidation.

Last time I ordered a full desktop PC while living in Coventry, I didn't go to Eclipse, and I've been happy with the machine I did get.

glad you got a decent non-eclipse PC, MBW

not heard of polar, superscaper, but I googled and found its glowing review from 2001 - bah !
I imagine PC Pro will say, as do PC Advisor, thats its impossible to assess company reliability and customer service - even though every PC purchaser has to do exactly that ! yet they do have polls (the PC Pro 2008 poll is running now).
they could give the companies poll rating (ie owner satisfaction rating) or at the very least make it clear they don't take into account a companies reputation.
I used to post all the bad feedback on Eclipse in the comments box after each review but PC Pro deleted them and warned me I'd be banned if I posted any more :(
not sure what they are scared of - I think reviewing companies with bad feedback just eroded PC Pro's brand value.
the PC Pro forum has several posts from disappointed Eclipse customers and other raising eyebrows and PC Pro plugging them !

possible following on from PC Pro's recent rave review of the Eclipse Zenith

"When it arrived, it lasted for an hour and then shut-off. And then wouldn't turn on. And then when it did, it shut off again. Probably overheating... so I didn't mess with it for too long, and as it has "peel me off and you're screwed" labels on the case I didn't try and DIY it either.

This morning, I'm told that they'll pick up Wednesday, which is two days later (because it really does take that long to book a courier collection) and that it will take 7-10 days to fix. And of course, if it does work when it reaches them I'll be charged £85 in total for the privilege. "
  • eclipse computers

i purchased a CPU cooler from eclipse computers
and when received it had a cracked case, so i returned it after having to send photos of it to them they agreed to replace the item or refund.
weeks later and after many e-mails and phone calls i still havent got either a replacement or a refund,
im now having to take the matter further. as they are in breach of the sale of good act 1979. and will take court action against them if not resolved within 14 days..
my advice is never to use them for any of your purchases and advise others not to do so ..

  • And the moral of this particular story?

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!

If you don't want crap service, and crapper components, then pay some more and buy from a reputable firm.
