I'd be keen to hear from anyone who is happy with their PC, or other product, bought from Eclipse Computers of Coventry.
You can't extrapolate from one or two cases but the web is full of angry complaints about this company who have string of best buy awards from computer mags
google Eclipse Computers (of Coventry) and they seem to
have a terrible reputation for product reliability and customer service.
for the most part the feedback on numerous boards is frighteningly negative.

sure maybe only disatisfied customers complain but google Chillblast or Zoostorm or Dell and you don't find pages of angry feedback ! but you do with Eclipse !! and its not that they are a large company
an informed assessment of the wisdom of an Eclipse purchase should take this into account

the Eclipse website are claiming that Computer Buyer are rating their Eclipse Aspire PC a "good buy" :rotfl:
does anyone know how they rate PCs ?
just the PC or do they also rate the company for product reliability and customer service ???
I know PC Advisor have told me they rate only the PC (" its the only way to do it") rather than the whole package.
Of course a company will make sure the PC they send to the mag works well but it may be different for Joe Bloggs, their PC may not work on delivery and the company may be bolshie about fixing it. :mad:0 -
I've used Eclipse computers several times and found the service relative to the money I saved by going to them rather than PC World.
I ended up with a faulty stick of RAM, took it back and waited in the very large queue to get it changed. By the time I got to the front I was in a pretty foul temper and more than ready to kick off and beat one of the scrawny little nerds behind the counter into the middle of next week. The customer behind me calmed me down, the RAM was changed (eventually) and I left happier, just.
I dare say I'd use them again, if their prices were the lowest. Being local to me, I can pop into their premises (I hesitate to say shop). Like any box-shifters cutting their own and their competitors' throats, they aren't going to be geared up to niceties for customer comfort.
I go to PC World if I want someone to call me "Sir" and hover about waiting to offer advice, or sell me something, and I pay for it down the line.0 -
Years ago I ordered a load of parts from them, from that set I had a faulty hard drive (bad sectors), both sticks of RAM were faulty, the DVD drive wouldnt read discs. Problem was I would return one item and then try and install windows etc...and then find another problem. *sigh* To top it all off the floppy drive I ordered from elsewhere also corrupted floppy discs!
I know it is possible that the parts were faulty through no fault of Eclipse's...but it just seemed odd when I have had plenty of other parts from other retailers since and no problems.Out of my mind. Back in 5 minutes.0 -
thanks for your input Sparky and Amalea.
personally I think the only time I'd use Eclipse was if I lived in Coventry and it was a small item.
to be honest not even then ...
I wish I'd seen all the bad reviews of them before buying my PC instead of relying on the rave reviews from PC Advisor and Computer Buyer.
as of today PC advisor are now recommending yet another Eclipse computer, the
Eclipse Crucial Supreme n685n88GTS
I hope any buyers don't have my experience - my graphics card was faulty (red tint on screen) when delivered and was reported and repair under the warranty requested within 30 days yet Eclipse refuse to collect as I would expect under the Premier30 warranty.
I can understand a company would want to see if such a problem could be fixed in situ but IMO delaying with unhelpful suggestions such as "contact the monitor maker" when the prob could be quickly traced to the card - and then refusing to collect saying "now you're out of the collection period" is not the best
problem compounded as after 2 months from delivery (3 months from ordering !!!) the DVD tray has jammed in the out position.
not best pleased !!0 -
I HATE TO SHOUT..... BUT DO NOT TOUCH ECLIPSE COMPUTERS WITH A BARGEPOLE.
I STUPIDLY ORDERED ONE AFTER SEEING A GLOWING REVIEW IN A UK COMPUTER MAGAZINE AND IT WAS THE WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE. EVERYTHING ON THERE WEBSITE SAYS IN STOCK YET IT NEVER IS.
HEAVEN KNOWS WHY THE COMPUTER INDUSTRY SUCKS UP TO THEM, THEY MAY SUPPLY GREAT MACHINES FOR A REVIEW BUT DON'T CARE ABOUT THE AVERAGE JOE PUBLIC
AVOID.
PLEASE DO..0 -
I wish I'd heard your wise words 6 month ago Rochdale Guy.
Why do the mags give rave reviews to Eclipse Computers ?
well PC Advisor say they rate only the PC not the company.
Well maybe that inevitable but that should make clear its not the whole package thats "recommended".0 -
I see that the May PC Advisor are rating Eclipse's latest the Eclipse Matrix A64N88GS no 3 on their list
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/index.cfm?reviewid=1810
According to the mag its "a superb entry-level system for gamers" (assuming the PC actually works I suppose).
Of course PC Advisor have said themselves that the reviews do not take into account the reputation of PC maker at all and it would be nice to see a health warning on reviews to that effect, particularly given the appalling reviews that, for example, Eclipsecomputers has on numerous PC and consumer boards0 -

They've had my money for more than 4 months and for most of that they've had my computer as well!!

and can you believe this ??? Eclipse trying to change £65 for a now defunct Vista OEM because Eclipse installed it on a dud computer
"latest wheeze from Eclipse: having been hassled by Trading Standards, they refunded part of my money, but deducted £65 for the cost of the Vista OS, because 'it had been activated'. How they expect to sell a computer with an OS and the customer NOT activate it (without so doing, you can't access all features)...!! so am still fighting them for the full amount. I have reurned 2 PCs to PC World, both with Vista activated, & had a full refund on the spot."

Geeze, I went for an interview for a job with these guys, glad I didn't get it.
IIRC, their "shop" looks like it was built from some portacabins stuck together.
And they were a little difficult to find.0
