I assume it could be frozen (in the sauce) after cooking too, and then just re-heated once defrosted in the microwave (till it's really hot)?0 -

I am looking for a recipe for a quick and ultra cheap tomato sauce to go with my supply of whoopsied meatballs!
Ideally to be done in a slow cooker.

lots of garlic, some onion, chopped pepper if you have it.. softened, add stock cube, tinned tomatoes (2 tins) tomato puree (good squeeze), tomato ketchup (squirt), italian herbs, Worcestershire sauce, a bayleaf, capers/ olives if you have them, a good teaspoon of mint sauce.. my magic ingredient! add a bit of chilli if you like it spicy
cook for ages till its delicious.. cost.. pence...0 -
- 4 onions, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic,
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped optional
- Vegetable oil ( enough to cover ingredients)
- Tin of tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons dried basil
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Generous splurge of tomato paste
- In a slow cooker saute together the onion, garlic, green pepper, and vegetable oil. Cook until onion is transparent.
- Add the tomatoes, oregano, basil, parsley, sugar, salt, and ground black pepper. Cook for 2 to 3 hours on low heat.adding water to achieve desired consisitency.
- add tomato puree paste when nearly cooked to acheive desiered taste.
I have not tried this it is from a book I have so cant vouch for it0 -
