Afternoon all, I've been to the hospital today to have the post op check, it's all looking good, I'm amazed at how tiny the incisions are, amazing what they do with mini cameras and things these days, so hopefully I won't have a noticable scar (vain? moi?) It's all looking good though and felt lovely to have the strapping off for a few minutes, back on now though and it's doing my head in!! Never mind, only 8 more weeks  then physio.

Oh had some bad lettrs throght the post

First letter was from bank saying loan couldnt be paid out this month so they are charging us a fee of a returned payment. WHY? I hate this:mad: Seems to happen each month no matter how hard we try to save!

Second letter was from my work saying they overpaid me by £200 so over the next 2 mths they will deduct £100 from my monthly pay! Oh Im livid! £100 is a lot for us:mad:

So looks like although my hubby and I have booked holiday in April/May we will be staying at home with the kids .

Anyone out there cheer me up?

Work are entitled to reclaim there money but they cannot do it if it will cause you hardship, explain to them that you can only manage £50 a month, it was their error afterall.

    Fook, booger, bum hole............

Went to get my waggy friend for his walk and remember the grinding noise on the car??? It came back, but this time 2 very loud, very sudden and short grinds which put the wind up me.

Kwik Fit is only a mile from me so went in and they said they would give it a brake check and call me and it would take 2 1/2 hours in total for check plus getting any parts etc. Walked to get my doggy (up hill - god I was knackered) and then waited there at my ex's place until they called.

They called after 30 minutes - 2 leaking brake cylinders which they think was making the shoe stick. I gave the ok to replace the parts and they said it would take about 1 1/2 hours. Call less an hour later - all done. Walk back down the hill - much more fun :D

£113.............sob..........because it didn't make the noise on the test drive they can't guarantee that was the problem, BUT they said both were leaking and they think it was running dry  so are pretty sure that was the problem.

Mad as it sounds, I know £113 is a lot of money, but it didn't feel like it hurt too much. I'd rather be safe to be honest and the guy said they were the original Honda ones and my car is 10 years old with 95k on the clock. Luckily, the brakes themselves are fine and he said I was lucky not to have caused any more damage.

They also checked it over and said the power steering pump is on its way out. Not leaking but the cause of a loud squeak I get just before full lock when I do a 3 point turn. That is a bit nasty - about £300. I'll do that in a few months - definitely not yet!!

I know Kwik Fit probably isn't the most MSE way to get a car fixed, but I just wanted a solution, fast, so I felt safe driving. I guess though, who is to say a 'normal' garage would be much cheaper?? Sorted in less than 2 hours, I was happy with that - I would have hated driving it around for a day or so until I could have it looked at somewhere else.

OH won't be happy I've just gone and done it - I can hear him now - you should have let me look, the parts are cheaper to buy rather than get them to do it, why didn't you get a Haynes Manual, yadda yadda.......however, I know how slow he works and it would have been days before he got around to looking at it, he isn't a trained mechanic and possibly wouldn't have known it was leaking cylinders. I would have then had to find the parts and then wait until he had time to fix it. Sometimes, I think, you just have to go out and fix a problem.

Hell - that's a total bummer - did they overpay you? Have you checked? Did you think it was too much when you looked at your pay slip? With the bank charges/bounced payment on loan thing - sounds like you'd to well to start a thread about that and get some advice - perhaps you've already done that? xxx

Glad you got it sorted Keren, no harm done (except to bank balance, but as you say, what price for peace of mind)

Did you take your pal for a walk in the end?

yes, he was happy Maz, he loved me being around for a couple of hours! Sat in the garden with him while I waited after walking him to the playing fields and he just played with a ball whilst I read the paper. Only 1 possible job at the local police station.

I just hope it was the cylinders and it doesn't do it again. At least I know there is nothing wrong with the brakes in any way (ie shoes, pads, drum etc)

It is the law of sod, but the warranty runs out in 3 days! However, I checked when I got back (thinking, oh dear, I could have had this done where I bought it) but the level of warranty I was given didn't cover brakes and on top of that, if it had done, then it only covered the first £50 of the claim.

Might look to see if steering is covered though.............;)

Maybe...but hydralic systems can be a buggger to bleed and dangerous if not done properly.

They did bleed the brakes as well, and apparently unless you have a piece of kit or someone to help it is a difficult job.

Nah, I will overcome his male ego and pride
