Please please go to the police, i can't bear this, its absolutely awful! I really, really hope this all gets sorted for you and your mum. Sorry I don't have a constructive suggestion, but reading this post has made me so angry for you both!0

This basically equates to modern day theft!
Perhaps someone saw the documentery on TV not so long ago, where a warden in a carehome, had taken money from one of the residents to fund her gambling habit. This ended up in court, and this situation is almost similar (with the exception that your mother knew that he had ' taken' the money).
The man concerned is in a position of trust, which he has abused. Is he employed by a local authority, or could you let his employer know of his dealings.
Someone approaching this rogue, apart from your mother, may also beable to enforce him to repay the money.
I also think that your mother should have some stability in her lodgings, so as others have advised I would approach the local housing authority who could hopefully help your mother find some suitable accomodation away from others who will prey on her vulnerability.

My heart goes out to you and your Mother. Go to the Police and CAB etc but I would also consider talking to your mother about taking charge of her finances for her ie Power of Attorney or something because she is clearly not able to cope on her own.
Hope all goes well.0 -
Sorry for the late reply but I think the most important thing is to get your mum rehoused as quickly as possible. This guy is a thief who prays on the vulnerable. Go to the council and say your mother must be rehoused as soon as is possible as her landlord will not commit to a tenancy agreement and she is in danger of being homeless. Tell them he steals from her. Hopefully she shouldn't be waiting too long for a secure place to live.
Then get your mum's credit card statements and go through the purchases - circling ones she knows aren't hers. Go to the police and say this guy has been harrassing and scaring your mum into letting him buy stuff on her credit card (which she had to agree to as she was scared of losing her home). They should take one look at the statements and go and question this guy - if you have any of the warranties of the electrical items these would help too as the item numbers would be on them and they can be proven to be your mum's. If it can be proven he stole the items, he should have to pay back the balance to the CC companies and hopefully your mother's debt will be cleared. A long road, but I hope you and your mum get it sorted and that scumbag gets what he deserves.0 -
i'd have let her keep the credit card and report it stolen; received it but put it in a draw and not used it that often, gone to find it and it's gone.
Then let him use it again0 -
Surely you can make room for your mother for goodness sake - she only raised you and brought you up for probably 20-25 years of your life...
Especially when she is being scammed.
What ever happened to blood is thicker than water...
If your renting - why not get a shared house with your mother and split the rent...0 -

I understand this. My daughter bought a one-bedroomed starter home. I stayed with her one night - I slept on a blow-up bed on the floor. Not comfortable even for one night!
Ever after that, whenever I visited her I used to stay in a farm B&B nearby.
It's no good saying 'surely you can make room' without knowing what circumstances people live in. But I do agree that, as a woman over 60, she falls into one of the 'vulnerable groups' that the council has a duty to rehouse. Most areas have got sheltered housing, and it would be a lot better being a tenant of the council than of these scamster landlords.
Best wishes

May be worth a word with someone like Age Concern or suchlike - I'm sure they have come across bullies like this before and may be able to offer support if nothing else.0
