If you have a dog you can feed it to them I think as they are imune to some of the bugs in meat? Double check though as i'm not 100%

I think the point is that the temperature change could be deemed unsafe. It was defrosted at room temperature, out of the fridge, then popped in the fridge and then frozen. Sure it could be fine, but is it really worth a risk if its not ? Personally i'd sooner be safe than be unwell just for the sake of £6.99 :)

Remember too that the never refreeze after defrosted guidelines on packages are there for a reason. For the very same reason of making sure its fully defrosted first before cooking and making sure they are cooked properly.

Granted as i said before, i am quite funny with chicken, so its likely i do air on the side of caution :)

Please don't jump on me for this but, back in the day mum used to leave Chicken out over night, and on top of a warm cooker to defrost, and we aren't dead and have never had food poisoning.

I think we rely too much on what other people say these days. As I've already said on this thread I'd eat it. I'm a great believer in ignoring best before dates and if it smells okay them I'll eat/cook it. Again I've never had illness through it.

    But thats just me.

    Hi all

Just looked in me fridge and found a whole chicken that i forgot was in there - havent been home much lately and cooking has been out of the question cos little one and bf are ill - the date on the chicken for using was yesterday - it looks ok - no idea of smell as i havent opened it and it hasnt been out of the fridge.

Will it still be ok to eat if i cook it today???

    Thanks!

if its been kept in the fridge and the date was only yesterday then I would risk it. Just make sure it doesnt smell when you unwrap it, its a smell you wont miss

As long as its cooked thoroughly it should be fine

I go on the principe if it looks and smells ok it probably is, dont remember BBE dates on food when I was younger (but that could have been cos I was too young:rotfl:)

Same as the above. Give it a sniff and then eat it (as long as it smells okay) :D
