I checked out the US website and it does say that re-freezing would be ok if it was originally defrosted in a chilled environment.
Unfortunately, it was orignally defrosted out of the fridge for speed. I usually do defrost chicken in the fridge and after this think I will always do so in future!

if you'd put in in the fridge overnight for use today, the accidental freezing has kept it even colder than it would have been normally, so any bacteria that might present would have even less chance to multiply
I don't think you've any more of a safety issue now, than if the fridge hadn't been turned up
the refreezing might affect the quality of the meat though, & make sure you cook it thoroughly for your own peace of mind0 -
I think, because it was defrosted, and then put in the fridge, i wouldnt risk it - chicken is a bit too risky for me!!!0

Swan - looks like we posted at the same time. The chicken wasn't defrosted in the fridge, it was defrosted out of the fridge, so think it is a no-no.0

that last post (of mine) was a bit long-winded, I think what I'm trying to say is ...
if you were happy about eating it when it had been at normal fridge temperature overnight, why wouldn't it be ok to eat it when it's been briefly stored at an even lower temperature
if you live near Dundee, I'll come & buy it off you, cook & eat it, & report back

At £6.50 and with a small child, i'd avoid the potential to have stomach aches, mark it down to bad experiance and move on.
Of all the meats i would throw chicken out in a heart beat as its the worse of the lot.
It was defrosted at room temperature and then effectively refrozen. Mind you, i'm funny with chicken anyways and wouldn't have popped it back in the fridge, defrosting in the fridge from the start.
Again its personal choice and yours to make, but i'd avoid it. Its always the COULD happen situation, would it be worth the risk ?A male chef of 4. My restaurant is always full and i don't need to tout for business.

Lesson learnt; always plan ahead and defrost chicken in the fridge.

I would eat it I'm afraid. I'd cook it longer than usual but in the end it would get eaten.Aiming to be Debt free by October 20130

I've been Googling around & the general consensus is that all defrosting should be done in the fridge, see for example HERE
so what they're saying is that strictly speaking, the chicken would be considered unsafe even without the second freezing! :eek:
that said, I've often defrosted chicken on the worktop & eaten it with no ill effects
& I'd still take your chicken off you & eat it if I lived closer0
