OK another "topic for the day"! We sent the letters yesterday informing our creditors about the dmp which is due to start on 1st July. DH wants to phone them all to tell them what is happening but I think that will give them ammunition. Someone said it normally takes them a good few weeks to realise they haven't been paid. Surely if we ring them it will be informing them earlier and inviting trouble.

Answers on a postcard please lol:rotfl:

Just wanted to bump this one if that's ok.

    oooo so impatient! ;)

I would wait a while personally - have you done token payments yet? (sorry so many in this topic I get confused!) if you have that is notice enough - if not do whichever comes first token payments if you are missing a month of payments or offer of payments from your DMP company (if that makes sense!)

So now what do I do? Do I contact the creditors and tell them about my plan? What kind of reaction do you get? Is it best to leave it until the DMP pack comes? I have no money at the moment to open a new account, shall I max out my overdraft and use this?

I just did all this. Start on the process of opening a new account now. You don't have to put money in straight away to open the account. If you do it before your DMP kicks in, your credit rating will not look too bad and you can get a fairly useful account.

I opened an Alliance and Leicester Premier direct account which comes with a debit card and cheque book. The account then sat there open and empty for 3 weeks waiting for my salary to come in.

Most important thing to do is make sure that your chosen new bank is not connected to any of your creditors going on to your DMP. e.g. if you have an alliance & Leicester credit card, DON'T get an Alliance & Leicester current account.

Look back earlier in this thread, I think there's a link to a list of which bank is linked to which.

    Hi Peeps,

I have just sent off for my DMP pack from CCCS, one part of me is feeling happier already as I have now started doing something about getting rid of my debt.

Another part is scared, I have read the first 15 pages of this thread and then bounced around but I am still not sure how this is going to go.

My debts are with MBNA (14k), Barclaycard (14k), Egg (5k), Natwest (5k), Morgan Stanley (3k), More - M&S (1.5k) and an 1.5k overdraft with Barclays

Is it likely these companies will freeze the interest ?
Which ones are likely to sell the debt on ?
If they sell them on is it likely the debt collection company accept the dmp or does it often go to Court ?
What's the best way of responding to threatening calls once I go into arrears leaving cccs to distribute my payment ?
One last question, anyone know looking at my debtors what bank is not assocated with any of them as I need to open up a new bank account.

I must say it does make me feel better seeing so many other people supporting each other on here.

    Thanks Peeps.

I feel relieved when a DCA buys a debt as in my experience it means they will accept a payment plan. I even have an accepted payment plan with Capquest which the main board is full of complaints about!

I personally have not dealt with any of your creditors so not sure about how they deal with things - but that is one thing we have all learnt that companies do not have set ways of dealing with things, so even if you read of a bad experience it does not mean to say the same will happen to you nor the other way round.

My way of dealing with phonecalls was to change my number, others have caller display or write letters asking not to be called.

    Here are linked banks

    hi
have got appointment tomorrow which i have to take my total income/outcome sheets with me, to work out an affordable monthly offer to 3 creditors: 1st Credit ( NASTY & PHONING CONSTANTLY !!!! ) - £11,200.08
Link Financial (NICE & ONLY A FEW CALLS) - £3493.07
Lewis Debt Recovery (NICE - PHONED ONCE) - £1,188.28
(ALL OF THESE ARE UNSECURED & NOT PRIORITY DEBTS)

I have just finished filling in all income/outcome and am left with just over £30.00 between the 3 of them.

Can anyone advise me of what will happen during the appointment and will I be able to make my creditors an offer of monthly payment after the appointment. I keep reading of payment plans being set up and sending token payments until this has happended. Will my monthly offer not be able to be made tomorrow?

I feel better than I did this morning when I was getting myself into a bit of a state about it all. One day i'm fine the next I can be a bag of nerves and very tearful, (which is especially hard when the kids are on school holidays - no privacy).

Any advice would be much appreciated .
