Thanks, Rayday. That's really helpful.0

Hi Littlun,
Last year I wanted to separate from my partner and was desperate to find a rental property. As to avoid them to look too deeply into my finances I offered 6 months rent upfront (my daughter's savings). You might be able to do the same and take that six months rent (plus two months deposit) from the sale price of the house. I know someone on this forum has done it (it might have been the BR thread). So it can be done.

That is true Marru - landlords can be pretty greedy so the thought of 6 months rent up front can work. Also used to use that lever for anyone who wanted pets etc.
You just need to be upfront when you find a property you like and ask the people in the agents to speak to the landlord and find things out rather than just waffle on about credit checks.0 -
Just to inform those on a DMP.
The OFT guidelines state, it's an offence for a creditor to refuse to deal with a third party appointed representative.
Any issues anyone has with creditors, the easiest way round this is to ask the creditor for a contact name and fax number.
Contact your DMP manager ask them to fax your “Letter of Authority” to the creditor, this means that the creditor and your DMP manager can negotiate between themselves.

Hello
Me again with more questions, sorry:o
We will hopefully have our dmp set up by the time oh gets paid next but i have the problem that £50 worth of bank charges are due to be taken out of my account around that time too so what happens with them as we'll just have money for food, rent etc
Do i include even the littlest of debts, such as my debt with grolier thats £29? Or is it best to try my hardest to find a way to pay it? I have 2 other little debts, £60 and £16.
Also my child benefit comes in at different times of the month as its every 4 weeks. I get my next lot around the 13th of may.(got this months today but have bills to pay:rolleyes: ) How does this work with my oh being paid on the 28th of each month? Will it matter that the money for the dmp will be going to them in 2 different payments?(ohs money on 28th then my child benefit when it goes in)
Havent been able to call them yet as theres been a problem with my phone line since sunday. Oh well, at least no creditors can call:rolleyes:'They only had one cow!'0 -
Hi everyone
Hope you dont all mind but i am starting to get a bit worried and not even started DMP yet.
I have my main account with LLoyds and cc and od with them too.
I am waiting to hear from Natwest about a Step account so i can't start cancelling dds yet.
I had to pay my Lloyds cc today as i need to keep things going until my taxcredits and second job wages go in next week. I am worried they will cancel my od if i let on whats happening with CCCS, then i wont have money to live on.
MY loan comes out just after and there wont be enough time to cancel it before taxcredits etc go in. Sorry, i dont think this will makes any sense.
I have missed minimum payments on 1 other cc and a catalogue last week . I can send token payments to them tomorrow with the first letter i got from CCCS letting them know about the impending DMP. The cc i missed is Tesco and i had a letter today saying to pay or they will default on it in another 12 days and it says if i dont i will breach the contract and they can demand immediate repayment of monies due. They say they could assign me to a DCA or take court action.
I am stressing as there is too much happening at once but at the same time nothing if you know what i mean. Until i get the new bank account open i cant do a lot about LLoyds and all the dds i have going out from there.
The CCCS said i might be able to start DMP on 1st May but i cant see it all being sorted by then.
Please can someone advice as i am trying to sort this on my own as there is no one to help and its really worrying me0 -
Lostalot,
I'm in more or less the same place as you. DMP not kicked off yet and trying to keep it quiet from the creditors until the big bang. My worry is with the salaries going into a virgin one account (used to be the mortgage, now its just a current acct) and if the virgin mbna card gets wind of my situation, they may be able to take what they like to clear it.
I find myself thinking of little else which is futile since there's really nothing to do now until D(mp) day.
Is the nat west step account the one you want to replace your current account with? If Nat West are taking too long, you could maybe forget them and apply online for an account with alliance & leicester.
I did an online application on Thursday and got the approval by email in a couple of minutes. The letter arrived today with the account details and the cards and stufff will arrive in the next few days.
It's the little bits of certainty which keep me going.0 -
Thanks for reply. I also applied to CO OP in the branch last week for a basic account but heard nothing yet. I will prob have to pay the LLoyds loan a week monday as i cant afford DMP payment and loan aswell. CCCS said i could start DMP on 1st of June if needed but i am worried as i am keeping up Lloyds payments but will only be paying other creditors a £1 token payment until all dds are removed from LLoyds and set up elsewhere. Will this cause major problems paying all to LLoyds but tokens to others.0

After reading through a lot of this thread and thinking about this all day today, I think I am going to call CCCS and talk to them about my debts and the possibility of setting up a DMP.
I just have a few questions about things:
1)My creditors are MBNA, Barclaycard, RBS, Northern Rock, Alliance & Leicester and Next. Are these considered to be generally positive creditors or negative ones? (I am concerned about nasty phone calls, although as I have only moved in with a friend since last October, I have only kept my mobile number as contact; I would hate for my housemate to start wondering why I was getting lots of phone calls, although don't expect to as they don't have the landline number anyway)
2)I know I will have to open a basic bank account and wondered which banks those already with a DMP favoured?
3)I realise that those who are having uneventful DMPs possibly don't post as much on here but generally, is it a positive move forward or a whole load of extra grief and stress?
4) is the budget you agree to a reasonable one? None of my friends or family know about this mess I am in and I plan to keep it that way - could not bear the shame really. Theoretically, I should have a rather nice disposable income that due to my debts I obviously don't have - and I don't want to be in the position of being obviously scrimping bigtime.
Thanks for listening to the ramble; I feel like I am teetering on the edge of a cliff unsure of whether to jump or not, even though I maybe think that jumping will be a good move for me......
4)Proud to be dealing with my debts

hi Lotsalot and andytwonames
We started our DMP over six months ago. It was a really scary, unsettling time . At the time the DMP and creditors took up every waking moment and I couldn't imagine a time beyond that.
Well I can honestly say that we have both moved on from there, everything settled at the moment and there are actually days at a time where I forget about the DMP.
GOOD LUCK TO BOTH OF YOU0
