Hi
I'm fairly certain that insurances paid for monthly don't constitute credit in the usual sense,so don't think it will affect your DMP or that you have to advise CCCS. If the figure is different you can deal with in your review. Not sure about the credit check tho - I think that if you fail it maybe they ask you for a bigger payment up front? Sorry, can't really help more than that.
Do you think it's wrong to feel a little "superior" in dealing with our debts? I mean, all those "other" people out there who are just blindy spending and thinking "it will be fine" are so in denial! And we know, cos were those people until we saw the light (blimey i'm beginnin to sound a little cultish!) But do you know what I mean. People come on here desperate about their debt, get advice, go off and talk to CCCS or whoever, and then come back with a new lease of life! I think that's brilliant!
There's a few us DMP newbies just starting out so it will be good to support each other and share our experiences.
Hi Loopy, I agree on the support side would be great if we could support each other..it's such early days setting up my DMP and trying to live to a budget strictly cash and I don't get paid for another few weeks so, I don't think I can afford to feel satisfied with myself yet...
I'm relieved that i've done something about my debt but feel it's just very early days...not wanting to be a pessimist but just would love to be a year down the line and have everything going to plan, DMP firmly in place and no nasty letters or phonecalls...
This thread has already been such a great source of information and support that I know I will be able to have someone to turn to when it gets a bit rough over the next few weeks.
Similarly, I really hope that I'll be able to support anyone else who is currently wondering and worrying about their debts (however big or small they seem like an impossible mountain to climb when they're your debts) and wants some advice on whether to speak to CCCS or not.
I hope in a week or two I'll be further forward with my plan and can start looking to the future a bit more.
Thanks Loopy for the advice off to get my car insurance sorted - definitely going to be clever from now on and go via quidco to get some extra money back - I don't want to waste cash ever again, but being a "reformed shopaholic" in the early stages of withdrawal I'll be relying on people here to stop me spending and get me to be making the most of every penny I spend.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend - if anyone is reading the boards and thinking they can't cope with their debt, please don't suffer on your own - post a message here, get support and advice, put down your income and outgoings to get more advice and even if you feel that you don't have a penny to spare and you're drowning in debt at the moment, someone will have useful advice for you - we're here to help and support, so don't hide from that debt anymore - write it down on here and we'll tackle it together!LBM: 31.03.08 - Debt at 31.03.08: £38000  (not including student loan)Member #172 of the DMP Mutual Support Club 'Spendaholics Anonymous' Thread Member No 550 -

I Just wanted to say very well put! I've been on my DMP now since July of last year and my life has just all clicked into place since that day!! Yes there's been a few hassle's along they way but I now feel so in control - so much more than I was before and all I do now is look back and think - why couldn't I see what was happening?? - But that's all behind me...
Just received a letter from Metropolitan (Payment Services Bureau) to say they are now dealing with my HSBC credit card - that's good news - it means that interest is likely to be stopped and the debt will begin to reduce more than it was before...:T
Keep smiling everyone - at times its hard but just think what it will be like when it's all 'done n dusted'..... Have a fab weekend!0 -

Thanks itsnowtime, it's really helpful to hear from someone who is a good few months down the line - I'm guessing that Metropolitan is a DCA? This would normally strike fear into my heart but it's been so reassuring to know that once your creditor passes the debt on that the interest is normally stopped...I really appreciate all the advice on here and i'm already feeling a lot more positive.

Ooh, can I join? Can I, can I?! :j
I had my LBM last month, when I realised that I simply cannot continue getting into debt then nearly giving myself a nervous breakdown clawing back out, only to do exactly the same thing again almost immediately
I owe £4k to creditors of my own, plus another £4k personal loan that is in joint names. My lovely partner took equal responsibility for the loan despite it being all for me, cos the bank wouldn't let me do it alone. I don't want to drag him down with me, so I'm doing my best to sort things out from my side alone (although he's completely aware of what's going on).
I spoke to CCCS and am now beginning a DMP (creditors are yet to agree tho). I'm only going to be making token payments as my monthly outgoings are way beyond my income at the moment - budget threads here I come
I was surprised to be advised by CCCS to think seriously about bankruptcy - as I've got no assets to my name and am unlikely to eanr enough to pay my debts any time soon, they think it might be the simplest solution and to at least consider it. I'd be interest to hear from anyone else who's considered bankruptcy despite owing only a small amount (and I'll obviously look at the relevent forum section).
Anyway, I'm waffling now. Nice to 'meet' you all
V xFinally learning to deal with problems rather than ignoring them - this is a BIG deal for me!Current debt £4,000Making token payments only due to low income - but I'm working on it!!!0 -

Nice to meet you V - i'm only making a very low start DMP so don't expect my many creditors to be best pleased - no advice on bankruptcy I'm afraid but well done on getting started with your debts :beer:LBM: 31.03.08 - Debt at 31.03.08: £38000  (not including student loan)Member #172 of the DMP Mutual Support Club 'Spendaholics Anonymous' Thread Member No 550 -
Tass,
Why have they served a writ....is it because you own your own home?....sorry new to all this and still getting to grips with what can happen.0 -
Hi everyone.
I am about to start the ball rolling on a DMP and was wondering if anyone could help with a few questions i have please.
I need to open a new basic bank account and after looking at the advice on here i applied to Natwest and Co op. I was worried in case i got turned down as i need one asap before payday.Would it be a problem if i got accepted by the two as i could use one for dds and maybe one for money to live on.
One more question
in the CCCS pack i just recieved is the letter to photocopy to send to each creditor , it asks why my circumstances have changed since taking out the credit and i am not sure what to put . Its just that i owe a lot to many creditors and cant afford to live anymore. Hope someone can help, many thanks0 -
Not sure about the bank accounts but when we sent our letters we just said we were over committed on credit. Nothing had changed except we realised we were chasing our tails and had been for years.0

Hi lostalot,
Have you had your phone interview with CCCS? I remember in mine that I was asked this and they helped me try to express it in better words for the form.
If not then being honest is probably the best thing-you aren't the first one who's become overcommitted and you'll by no means be the last.0 -
Lostalot you will most likely get a Co-op Cashminder account which comes with an Electron Visa Debit card and you can have DDs and SOs on the account but no cheque card. The Co-op sent my card out within a few days and I have been using it happily for 3 yrs now.0
