Am not sure why after almost five years of us paying without missing- they want to take out Letters of Inhibition which they can't do unless they have a decree. I think that is similar to a charging order in England. it would mean if we did sell the house we would have to pay them their money - as if we wouldn't anyway. BUT this morning we have had a letter from 1st Credit's solicitors and they are going to accept our offer - so no court appearance for my OH - in the civil department anyway. What a relief. Will sleep well tonight.
Tass,
SO pleased that you have at last got this sorted.
Isn't it amazing how 1st Credit have done a u turn......have the finally realised you can't get blood out of a stone I wonder !!!!!!!0 -

Hi MSM1,
I sent a basic letter to all of my creditors before I had my phone appointment telling them that I was talking to CCCS and asking them to give me 28 days grace whilst I tackled my finances. I included a cheque for one pound in each letter to show willing. CCCS have since told me that this was the right thing to do and that token payments should never be more than one pound as they literally are just tokens to prove that your intentions are good.
I then spoke to CCCS and will be sending the letter re the DMP out this week. In the meantime I've had correspondence from 2 creditors offering 28 days grace anyway, so I guess it's usual practise.
So my answer would be yes - get yourselves sorted then start from the next paypacket. That way you shouldn't be chasing your tails

What would i do with provident, just keep paying normal weekly payments until the dmp starts?'They only had one cow!'0 -
I think you're supposed to treat every one of your creditors the same - otherwise they could argue that if you can afford to pay one, then you should pay them as well, if you see what I mean?
CCCS told me to stop EVERYONE, no exceptions, and to send letters and token payments for them all. But in the paperwork they sent me prior to my 'proper' phone appointment, it states that you should keep paying bills as normally as possible until you speak to them.
Clear as mud, sorry
I would say, don't do anything until you've rung them. The initial phonecall is just to set out your background and stuff, but they're REALLY helpful and will tell you what you should do. Write a list of things that you need to clear up beforehand and then at least you can get the basics sortedFinally learning to deal with problems rather than ignoring them - this is a BIG deal for me!Current debt £4,000Making token payments only due to low income - but I'm working on it!!!0 -
On a different point, now that i've cancelled my DD to my creditors, will they all write to me and ask whats going on? I felt a bit uneasy this morning hence why i'm up early as i just felt like a cheat to these companies that I owe to. Rugby6ft8
Now you've cancelled your DD, you will receive letters from your creditors, DON'T WORRY about these, they are system generated letters when a payment is not made.
When you get the letters, reply to them informing the creditor you are on a DMP, who with and your ref number.
Photo copy each letter, and forward it onto whoever is dealing with your DMP.
To save postage costs, ask your DMP provider for their Email address, then email your letters rather than post them.
When you email your letters, make sure they are saved under the correct format, as the recipient won't be able to open them (I lose track of what threads I've contributed to, PM me if you need confirmation about formating)Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

Hello Violet
When they say "Keep paying bills" they are referring to utility bills, mortgage / Gas / Electric / Water, etc, etc, these are priority bills and must be made if possible, all other bills, i.e CC / OD / Loans / etc, etc, these are non priority debts, and only token payments should be made.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

Thanks 10past6, great advice again. I opened up a current account with the Co-op yesterday and i get all my stuff through this week. They said I can call up on Tues and the account number will be ready then.
I need to get the DD's set up asap so that they are taken from this new account. I hope my employer has enough time to do it. Does anyone know how long it takes a local authority to set up a DD? 2 weeks should be enough shouldn't it?
10past6 - Will Payplan ask me to send any creditor correspondence to them and will it all be explained in the paperwork when I get it? My advisor sent me a template letter to send to my creditors which I'm going to get on to today. I've never had to get Postal Orders before. Can anyone explain how it works please, are they made payable to my creditors and does the post office fill them in or do I do that? (Really sorry, stupid question!!!)0
