If every house in the country had just 2 eco-bulbs, one power station could be closed down.
    SO KEEP THESE DEALS COMING!
    Nice to save.
  • There are lots of deals on the regular lamps these days but if you need the "Posh" low energy lamps such as candle lamps then try Tesco.
A few days back they were doing BOGOF on all low energy lamps and this included the posh types. Candle lamps worked out at less than a quid each.
Not sure if this offer is still going.

You will not mind showing us your evidence of this statement?;)

I agree, despite the mercury vapours, the dim light, and all the other anti-low energy bulb brigade, I love 'em, I have them every fitting in the house, even the desk lamp has a tube.

Keep the cheap deals coming! I am looking forward to new LED bulb replacements too...sad I know.

I have a low energy boiler, and want a wind turbine as my roof won't take solar panels. I am not a earth warrior, but I do think we need to learn to love the wind turbines, they look kind of sad and lonely on the bleak hill sides, like some sort of modern day Catherine Cookson novel. When Windmills were introduced, people of the time objected to them too, now people want to live in them!

I want a small low energy automatic car, but nothing works for me at the moment.

Is any one else keen on low energy?

I'm not worried about the mercury contained in low energy lightbulbs as I have no intention of smashing mine open to let it out.
At the price Sainsbury's and others are selling these bulbs at it won't take very long before they repay their investment compared to ordinary incandescent 60W bulbs. Every ~20 hours of use will use 1kwh less than a 60W bulb. You don't get many kwh of electricity for 33p these days....
I've heard that domestic wind turbines on the other hand may take >10 years to repay their cost and if you're in an unsuitable location they may never repay their investment when you take ongoing maintenance costs into account. Most wind doesn't happen a few feet above your house hence the big turbines you see off-shore etc. They may reduce CO2 emissions but they're more likely to reduce your bank balance more.
  • I'd like to consider that I'm green (not a martian). I have replaced light bulbs, ensured my white goods are all A rated, had cavity wall insulation and extra loft insulation (now 10") and thermostatic radiator valves, but I have to say the best investment I have made was to buy a Worcester Bosch condensing boiler and photo thermal solar panels. I have had them around 18 months now and the are fantastic. We didn't have a fantastic summer last year, but I turned the boiler off in May and didn't turn it on again until September. My Gas bill has dropped significantly. I know it is quite a large investment, but from my calculations it will payback in around 6-7 years, plus all the CO2 which isn't pumped into the atmosphere.

    You're excited by lightbulbs? :rotfl:
    don't be such a miserable 'b'!

I'm glad some people are concerned about the envirnonment- if we all did our bit instead of moaning and leaving it to someone else the world WILL be a better place.:grouphug:

Sorry if this is here alreadyI couldn't see it. I have been into Sainsburys today and they had philips energy saving lightbulbs 99p each or 3 for £1!! Max of 12 per customer so I picked up mine for my new house- it's the first thing I have let myself buy for it.
    What wattage were the bulbs?
