Rubbish
That takes not even close to the amount of details into account it`s crazy
Seems to me words of a poster trying to convince himself it`s ok0 -
"" but they dont bother to check whether the heating is actuaally workingor not.""
OP = please stop trying to blame others for your family's lack of due diligence - it is YOUR responsibility and no one elses.0 -
Rabbit - can you back this up? As far as I am aware, CORGI was set up following a devastating incident that destroyed a block of flats. If I can fiddle with my own pipes, that offers no protection to my neighbours.
Whereas with electricity, I'm only going to kill myself, so that's OK.
Rabbit is CORRECT, CORGI aint the law in this country! HSE are, and they allow diy gaswork for home owners.0 -
This is seriously bad advice and wrong
Please dont take notice of this post people
DG, the topic 'DIY gaswork' has been done to death here= http://www.screwfix.com/talk/forum.jspa?forumID=25
Ask again if you wish, CORGI installers there will tell you the law be prepared for some heavy language though.:eek:0 -
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg238.pdf
Specifially page 3
Only a competent person may work on gas
do it yourself is highly dangerous
and i likely illegal
Now i am aware there is grey area there but i am also aware crossing that line , in the view of the law would be quite easily done.
So , who`s right the HSE or some message board ?
p.s i am a CORGI engineer as mentioned elsewhere0 -
I was told (by Corgi) I can work on my own gas system, but it must be certificated by corgi registered fitter!!This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
-
Sorry, I only mentioned it as an aside as I found it astonishing the other month that I couldn't move a plug when fitting my new kitchen without informing the council and paying handsomely for the privilege but would be allowed to fit the gas hob.
Personally I wouldn't touch the gas in my house as I couldn't prove that I am competent (although could any prosecutor prove I wasn't?) and if something went wrong I'm pretty sure my house insurance wouldn't pay out.
Anyway silly swabbling like this is hijacking the OPs thread.
I think I asked (as did somebody else) whether the vendor had put any thing in the sellors information Pack. I think this is the OPs only glimmer of hope.0 -
p.s i am a CORGI engineer as mentioned elsewhere
You should Know the law then!!
I know it's a ' hard pill to swallow' but the HSE voted for DIY gaswork because statistics show that DIY gaswork was not a concern to them.
Why don't you give them a call ?0 -

i have said its BAD advice
and that fact remains , so as an engineer i am hardly likely to recommend people on a public website to do their own gas work am i ??
If theres a grey area , which there IS , i would err people onto the side of caution
wouldnt you ?
For myself , yes i do my own work and that of close people , which is in itself not the `right` way to do things but there you have it
My point is not really wethere its legal it`s wethere people on here should be recommending doing it
